hiding is not an option for me. they are still on the account and accessible. permanently deleting and removing ownership from the account is exactly what i personally wanted.

hiding them is fine for the average person without mental problems, but not for me. when i see the hidden games list and the sheer number of games i bought i feel a sense of guit and disgust in myself. it makes me depressed and never wanting to go onto my steam account. now i can rectify it.
  2. Mr. Molotov liked a post in a topic by fridgeracer in My thoughts on Microsoft
the reason why that is, is that linux never gained the popularity that windows did and that's probably because of ancient old conceptions of it being highly UN user friendly compared to windows, which is still what goes through people's heads today.
that's no longer the case for many distributions of linux, however that is also a problem in itself - too many versions of the same operating system... no one really knows what to choose, with microsoft it's one windows, that gets upgraded every few years and gets some crappy new UI but vastly remains the same... i.e. start button, control panel, windows explorer, active directory tree format for managing users and components of your PC... has all remained the same, and that's what keeps people heavily invested into windows.. it has consistency where linux does not.
as much as you or i may want to like linux because it's free and open source, it will never change the monopoly windows has for PC software or games unless everyone currently using windows just decided to up and switch to linux.
it's a viscious cycle... no one will change to linux because software and games continue to get made for windows, and software and games continue to be made for windows because no one is using linux... and as long as that cycle continues... no amount of steam OS or steam machines with steam OS is going to shift the prefered platform for playing games on the PC.
it's been like this for decades now. even in 1995 when windows 95 was around when i was just a little kid... i would hear constant... linux will take over windows... and here we are today with the same comments... but will it ever actually happen? nope.
  3. Crazycrab liked a post in a topic by fridgeracer in My thoughts on Microsoft
the reason why microsoft is a monopoly when it comes to the PC is that they made the right decisions very early when microcomputers (the PC sitting at your desk or coffee table right now) became a mainstream consumer product. before this computers were pretty much mainframes, but everyone wanted a PC at home.
Apple decided to control the hardware that would run their UNIX based operating system, and Microsoft decided to simply let their operating system be usable on any custom built microcomputer or microcomputers sold by other companies such as IBM.
the consumer simply prefered Microsoft's approach and therefore they gained popularity and when it came to PCs at home, all hardware was built around being functional with the Windows operating system.
Later on, people decided they wanted to play games on their PCs rather than just do work... and here we are many years later in 2016 with the Windows operating system still the dominant platform when it comes to playing pretty much any video game available for the personal computer.
People simply didn't want to buy a piece of hardware that only works with one piece of software (apple), people wanted customisation and options, and microsoft simply made an operating system widely available and fliexible for those same people that wanted a PC and not a mac.
Even today... android to smartphones is what windows is to the PC.

that's why i did some clean up in my steam wishlist. From 80 to 32 games. And i bought only those which i really play, not because of "nice to have" or "hunt and collect everything on sale".

  8. fridgeracer liked a post in a topic by Raspharus in MGS5 or witcher 3?
MGS V is unfinished. An entire chapter is missing, and chapter 2 consists of all chapter 1 missions being repetead(yes you have to play every mission) at a higher difficulty. Big Boss barely talks and cutscenes are not that many. Even less cutscenes in chapter 2. The game is open world but that open world is pretty barren. The stealth system is the best one that you will ever find. And the game runs perfectly and looks really good.

On the other hand the witcher has an interactive breathing world, a good story, good balance between cutscenes, dialogue and combat, every side quest and contract has it's story, a very very good expansion, treasure hunting, romance, aaaaaand it costs less.

Oh and it doesn't have microtransactions. And free DLC. And let's not forget Gwent. Did I tell you how it's an awesome RPG? Did I tell you how Ciri is and awesome character?

And now it's time for witcher 3 memes

Precisely... as far as the consumer is concerned.
Sony already made a major loss on the ps3 and really needed to make ends meet on the ps4.
So they designed a console with a completely different architecture in order to ease development time and costs and to also allow them to manufacture the console cheap... in order to sell it to us cheap... because cheap certainly shifts units. Expensive doesn't.
With that in mind... there is probably a technical fundamental reason why it is not possible to play ps2 discs on the ps4.
Let's not forgot that the xbox one still does not actually play the games off the disc like a native xbox 360... it simply says "he has the disc, so he can download the game and play it off the drive and I will emulate that game".
So I'm guessing because of sonys internals in the ps4 it's not possible to read ps2 discs. Maybe I'm wrong but I think that's the main reason why.
You simply cannot cater to everyone. Do you continue to focus on new and better current gen games for your console or do you focus on reliving the past with endless amounts of remastered and old ps2 re-releases?
Sonys future will never depend on catering to the minority of people who are he'll bent on backwards compatibility. The majority of ps4 gamers simply want new and better games to play... not older ones.
It's certainly a nice thing to have backwards compatibility but it isn't going to help Sonys financial end at all... especially if they just let you play the games for free and go through the trouble of providing access to thousands of games on their servers for you to download for absolutely free so long as you have the disc.
Microsoft is probably doing that because they already know they totally lost the consumer and the gamer this generation and will never beat Sony on sales or profit... so catering with the things people want and demand is something they have to do for damage control purposes in order to set their reputation up well for the 9th generation of consoles.
Sony has won this time around. There's no real need for them to cater to the minority and there's certainly no financial gain involved either.

What would you say about those who haven't played those games before and don't have their older systems anymore? The backwards compatibility on my PS3 let me play the first Killzone online. I also finished a few PS2 games on the system. I still have a big backlog of PS2 games myself, and when I get around to them, I'll be playing them on the fat PS3 as I already unplugged my PS2.

It also explains why people bought that Rare Collection for the X1. Play games that they missed or weren't able to play when they originally came out.

Even on Steam, there are games from the PS1 era like Soul Reaver which I just finished last year. I have a bunch of recently released games on there too, but I'm playing ones that came out years ago before getting to the newer ones.

What you said applies to people who have played the older games and want to replay them; there are those who actually DO replay and finish those older games. Also remember that on the PC side there's GOG.com which sells games from decades ago and have them work on current systems.

There's little to no downside to having backwards compatibility on a console as far as the consumer is concerned.

Admittedly I'm a bit pissed. We pay for this service monthly or per year and that doesn't seem to have improved the network at all.
To be honest I'm personally a bit annoyed by this because I got ESO today and was looking forward to playing online on my day off work but alas sony fails us all yet again.
I guess if I didn't have that game I wouldn't care as I'd be playing fallout 4 offline anyway. Just so annoying that we pay and that's supposedly put towards making the network more resilient and stable.
    My ass.

Any game offering something for $18,000 is automatically a bullshit game and any person supporting it or playing it might as well give up being a gamer and just become a lobbyist or a majority shareholder.
You can't sit there and defend $18,000 unless you're a money grabbing corporate schmuck yourself.
Anyone who defends that game... is pure weapons grade chemically imbalanced.

Last of us story is unfinished because ellie didn't find out that Joel lied to her about how she could have been the key to a cure for the virus or disease.
I think last of us 2 should be about ellie putting her trust into Joel even more, with game play and setting taking place 10 years later when she would be a grown woman, to only then find out that he lied to her and took away the one chance they had of getting the cure.
It would be a crushing and brutal betrayal of her trust for all these years, and now we have a game about survival as ellie with infected, clickers, bloaters, many new formations of the infected and the ultimate challenge... killing Joel once and for all.

    Hi shagg
Well as far as I can tell the ps4 has similar update settings like the ps3. You tell it what time of day when it's off to turn on and download any updates available and sync your saves to the cloud.
I have yet for anyone to tell me their ps4 interrupted their game for an update and not even providing option to cancel or postpone it.
On the xbox I have 2 options. Instant on for all updates to be dl automatically or energy saving for no automatic updates at all.
Needless to say I'm still pretty pissed. Not even steam does this during game play.
I wouldn't have minded normally but I was already frustrated with constant lag in mad max and this problem presented itself at the complete wrong time.
I'm now considering trading it in. 10 million or so people found a reason to go for a ps4 instead of an xbox one. I just found mine. Sod it.

  21. fridgeracer liked a post in a topic by Ysnar in PS4 or mini ITX gaming PC?
Thanks for the specs list.  How portable do you want the PC to be? Do you want it small enough to have its own bag or will it always be in the living room?

If you want an easy case to accommodate parts of all sizes, try the Cooler Master HAF XB, it has very easy access and a removable motherboard tray... building your system would be a breeze:
    http://www.coolermaster.com/case/lan-box/haf-xb/
I have this case and imo its wonderful

The other case I have is the Silverstone SG09, its VERY portable, has its own bag, but is a bitch to build... it took me 6 hours with help:
    http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=345
    The bag:

For portable systems, you have a lot of choice, here's a couple of examples:
Since you wanted airflow -> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139044&ignorebbr=1
    This one's rather popular -> http://www.bitfenix.com/global/en/products/chassis/prodigy

If you want more feedback regarding the build and case, I suggest you post the parts list here:
    http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc
The people over there are very knowledgeable and helpful, they'd be glad to give you feedback.  But make sure you specify your budget and intended use.

While I do agree that some of their cases are good looking (and I love the idea of customizing the case)... but pre-built systems are usually overpriced and in most cases you could build a significantly better PC with the same price.
  22. Laserrifle125 liked a post in a topic by fridgeracer in PS4 or mini ITX gaming PC?
    yo...

i want to play video games on the couch, im sick and done with being at a desk with a monitor and i dont care about keyboard and mouse games like RTS or mobas and what not.

    what's the most ideal solution?

    - on one hand, the PS4 is cheap as chips compared to a decent mini ITX gaming PC, all the games are almost 100% guaranteed to work, and it's a streamlined console that i need to do nothing with except plug it in and turn it on. simple. i also have a vita, so i could benefit from remote play features and cross platform purchases that could work on the PS4 and the vita with the same game purchase.

    - on the other hand, the PC will be more value for money in terms of the hardware, more functional and useful than just a gaming machine, and will provide a superior experience in terms of graphical quality and FPS performance, and loading times. however, quite often some games on steam will not work, or contain enough bugs and errors to piss me off (this now is not really a problem as we now have steam refunds).

i would still need a wireless keyboard and mouse to navigate specific parts of steam big picture, like when you load up skyrim, the launcher still wants you to CLICK on the start game button, despite being on big picture with just a wireless xbox controller. so there's those sort of things that will require the extra peripherals.

unless i use a 3rd party custom made program called steamlauncher.exe, to create a steam windows account that auto logs in to steam big picture as the computer starts up, making it LIKE a console start up, then i would still have to piss about with logging in with my password, using keyboard and mouse, dicking around with the windows UI scale to ensure i can actually see what im doing on the TV... so all in all, there's benefits, but there's also a lot of hassle.

a steam machine would be ideal i guess, but that's steam OS, which is linux, and i dont believe in gaming + linux, there's simply never going to be a skyrim for steam OS, which means i will never buy into it. so im stuck with a windows machine for the time being.

so what's the ideal solution? just get a PS4 and have the majority of games on a decent platform that will be here probably until 2018 and not axed for support by sony until 2020 and just be done with it, or go with an ITX gaming PC and all the peripherals and going through all the setup process just to get access to steam sales of which have almost no games im ever interested in and a steady FPS and better graphics?

    take your pick. thanks.

you're not going to be very popular around here, or with me specifically, if all you are going to do is troll other threads to pull out posts of what people said in entirely different topics and contexts and then stick it in here just to forcefully prove you are right above everyone else.

i can do the same to be honest, you pulled the same thing in the nintendo forums and pissed off quinsdaddy11 so much you made him see the whole of AJSA as unwelcoming and he left because of you alone.

it's also a well documented fact that i am on anti depressants and it's clearly displayed on my profile and i mentioned it around these forums a few times which you clearly read, but you chose to ignore that in this instance and achieve nothing but pissing me off, adding you back to the ignore list, and pretty much adding to the unwelcoming side of this community.

yeah but in the older days without internet and / or poor internet with the older generation consoles we didn't need to worry because 99% of the time when you bought a video game... it worked, period. no ifs and buts about it... games just worked.

today's gaming industry deliberately abuses the internet by releasing games too quickly or poorly and then uses patches and updates as the excuse, and it's not like you even have a legal leg to stand on because the broken games we now buy all come with an end user licence which you must accept before playing the broken game, which will detail inside it that the game "could" not work at all, and that means they legally can actually keep releasing shit and broken games and just fix them later when it's convenient for them, leaving people like me wondering why i even bother.
