  1. I'm happy to join a community like this, I believe I joined the forums a long time ago but never really used it much, but I'm hoping to change that with the new updates. For my introduction I'll pretty much just copy my about me. I recently moved to Idaho and have previously lived in California for 19 years and then Texas for four. My interests are Video Games, Board Games, and Tabletop RPGs. I'm 23 and I've been playing games for over 20 years. Own a lot of systems and over 1145 games. Was a very active member of Gamespot from 2002-2013 but no longer use the site, I'm now usually on sites like Blistered Thumbs and Board/RPG/Video Game Geek, and am looking for other good communities after Gamespot lost theirs. I am also active on twitter. I use the same name as here for all sites mentioned. Username is just from a mixture of the two games I was playing at the time when I joined Gamespot, which was The Two Towers on the PS2 and Jedi Outcast on the PC, didn't give it much thought at the time but after all these years I don't want to change it. I'm also a big fan of Kickstarter and have helped to support some great games on that like Valdis Story, Shadowrun Returns, FTL as well as many upcoming ones as well as movies, books, board games, and RPG games. When it comes to game genres I pretty much enjoy anything except for driving games and I get bored with sports games pretty fast. I tend to prefer SRPGs, tactical shooters, and strategy games. Some of my favorite games are Baldurs Gate 2, Suikoden 2, Crusader Kings 2, Fire Emblem 4, Fallout 2, Jagged Alliance 2, Ogre Battles 64, Bastion, and the Ghost Recon series. I'll stop there since, according to what I remember and added to my backloggery account, I've beaten over 1300 games so that could become a long list. I've been watching The Angry Joe Show, as well as many other people like Spoony, AVGN, Benzaie, etc since they started. For a list of games and systems I own and what I have played check http://www.backloggery.com/legolas_43 Anyone that wants to add me on the 360, PS3, Vita, 3DS (although I don't really know why you would), Steam, Twitter, etc is welcome to.
  2. Never looked at Trail, what are the differences? Used that quote on my introduction thread. I've used "Fighting like men" as my Xbox Live motto since that happened.
  3. Looking great so far
  4. Forgot to say Divinity Original Sin Another Kickstarter game I supported
  5. Not sure about best without watching them again but two reviews I'm really happy he did was the King Arthur and Mount and Blade ones that got me to buy both games. I'd likely have found out about Mount and Blade anyway but would have missed out on King Arthur.
  6. If this is the first forum you've posted on, it looks like this is a great place to start
  7. Oh yes, for anyone that doesn't know what "fighting like men" is from. I've used it as my Xbox Live motto since hearing Joe yell that.
  8. Welcome
  9. That seemed like it would be the least interesting of the 40K books. Not a fan of Space Marines at all though. You should watch Total Biscuit's group play Dark Hersey though, Total is great, as is most of his group, very funny and well run game.
  10. Batman Arkham Origin. I didn't expect it to really add anything onto what City did but they ended up adding overpowered items, having a story that focused on the Joker and Bane (AGAIN), had tons of bugs and glitches, and they actually made the combat worse with Batman refusing to do ground hitting moves half the time. Assassins Creed 4, enjoyable but they still haven't improved/fixed the terrible controls (at least they didn't make it worse like Batman Origin did). Fire Emblem Awakening: New pairing system is overpowered and breaks the game. A good idea of improving support characters standing next to each other taken way to far. Games I didn't play but was sad to hear how they turned out was Takedown Red Sabre, Aliens, and Rome 2.
  11. Never played D&D (watched Joe and Spoony play 4th when they did a few years ago) but I've played Pathfinder and own a lot of books for it (11 I think). Also own the core books for Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition, Star Wars Edge of the Empire, Numenera (and will be getting the next three books sent to me when they are done), one of the D6 Star Wars games from the 90s, and Song of Ice and Fire. I have PDFs of a few other games that were sold in a cheap bundle together. Also watching the Warhammer Dark Hersey game that Total Biscuit is in now.
  12. Probably rent it through Gamefly on the 360. If it's something I want to buy I'd get it for the PC. No plans on getting an Xbox One.
  13. I was more in agreement with Spoony's review, I was disappointed with a lot of what the game did or didn't do. But it sounds like Enemy Within is improving some of it. The way the council and country panic level was handled is really awful though. I'll end up playing it eventually.
  14. I still love and would enjoy playing Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape. Also really like the first two Suikoden games.
  15. Not a big Sims person but those games are all great. I orginally found out about Mount and Blade from Angry Joe, a lot of fun.
  16. In the last week I've played and really enjoyed Valdis Story which is on Desura and Steam and The Cat Lady which is on GOG. I got another friend to try Valdis Story and isn't one of his favorite games this year. If you look them up and like the look of them I highly recommend them both.
  17. Always a good thing to have. Especially here, when Joe focuses on a lot of PC games.
  18. Ignoring that I think Awakening is a completely broken game difficulty and feature wise I can't imagine any Fire Emblem working without perma death, unless the game was designed around it being likely that you would lose characters in a battle. Once characters don't die your strategy changes completely, you can throw characters into dangerous situations, you can suicide characters into bosses to soften them up. There are almost no situations in Fire Emblem, especially in late game where in most of them you can just sit your strong units down and pretty much have them kill anything that attacks them (I'm assuming you know to promote at level 20), where I'm thinking, oh no everyone is going to die. I might be in a situation where I lose someone or a few people, and unless I'm playing some kind of self chosen iron man mode I would reset the battle. Unless I really screw up or get my lord killed I can't imagine ever losing or needing to restart without perma death. If they were going to implement no perma death in a way where the game could still give any kind of a challenge they would have to add things that some other games have to still give a pently for losing characters, they would have to add the fatigue system from Fire Emblem 5 again where you can't just keep using the same characters battle after battle and running out of HP in battle would make them tired, or dead characters losing out on end of mission bonus XP for surviving units, or defeated units losing levels or stats from wounds, or being taken out of future battles to heal like wounded people in the new XCom. I've played all the Fire Emblems with the exception of 3 and 12 (which was the DS remake of 3 we didn't get) and none of them would work without perma death the way they play, unless someone wasn't playing for gameplay but just to see the story and character conversations but the newer games pretty much already have that with the easy/beginner modes.
  19. Fallout 3 was the first one I played as well.
  20. From the previews I've seen the controller doesn't work very well on the PC yet, or in some cases at all. It does seem to work on the PS3 for PS3 games though.
  21. I love Perma Death in games but it's never made that much sense to me in Fire Emblem. Losing a character in Fire Emblem means losing conversations, base conversations, support conversations, the ability to recruit characters I don't like when losing a character makes me lose part of the story or when losing a character might mean that I can't have anyone else with that class. I think perma death works very well in games like XCOM, Jagged Alliance, or even games like Baldurs Gate where losing someone would just mean finding a new party member since you have limited space anyway (of course you could pay for them to be revived in that) but it's never made much sense to me in Fire Emblem. On the other hand I find the Fire Emblem games to be really easy, especially the newer ones, and for Awakening some of the items you get from the online stuff and some of the pairs you can make are completely game breaking even on hard. Awakening is just completely broken even with perma death my character can just pair with Gaius and they can go kill everything on the map on hard (and I didn't even use any of the stat boosting items I found and my character is a guy it would be even worse if I was a woman and we had an S rank support instead of A). Allowing characters to not be permenently killed removes all difficulty from the game. At least I assume, I never actually turned it on, I'm assuming no perma death means you lose a character they are just removed from the map and can come back the next battle with no penalties? So while I would never actually allow a character to die in Fire Emblem, I don't understand how the game can function difficulty wise without it. I might as well just put the game on easy where I wouldn't lose anyone anyway in that case.
  22. Not sure why you would say that it's a unique view. It's not hard at all to find people, especially from the PC crowd, that didn't like or hated Fallout 3, especially if they played the first two games or are older gamers. My old roommate really hated Fallout 3 and had dozens of reasons that the writing and lore didn't make any sense with the other games and was the most disapointing game he said he ever played (at least until we played Brotherhood of Steel together).
  23. Nothing has made a big impact on me this year, and I've played almost all of the big releases except for GTA 5, Battlefield 4, and Beyond Two Souls. I should play GTA and BTS soon, and Battlefield once I fix my PC or get a PS4. For now I think I will say Dragons Crown and Metro Last Light. The new Ace Attorney, Fire Emblem Awakening, and Valdis Story come close.
  24. I loved the first, liked Tactics and Vegas, and the second is one of my favorite games. Didn't like Fallout 3 very much and thought it did a poor job with the series lore and Brotherhood of Steel I think is the worst game I've ever played. With Fallout with Bethesda and Wasteland 2 coming out I have no interest in another one.
  25. I'm currently, and always, playing a lot of games. I own a lot of games I have not finished or have not even started yet. In the last week and a half I've finished Assassins Creed 4, Parasite Eve, Batman Arkham Origins, The Cat Lady, Valdis Story, and played some of a few others. The games I'm most looking forward to now are Witcher 3 Cyberpunk 2077 Star Citizen Torment Tides of Numenera Wasteland 2 Metal Gear Solid 5 Project Eternity The Banner Saga Most of them Kickstarter projects I supported.
