Also there are things that you can do in 3rd personn you cant do in 1st - like in Dead Space where you have little nasty bug things crawl on you and you have to shake them off. Or like eternal Darkness where one of the insanity effects is you start losing limbs one by one.
Of course there are things that only work in first person. I would argue Alien Isolation's "I dun been stabbed with alien tail death" would not work half as well in 3rd person.

The EA that exists now is no different than the one we had 20 years ago in terms of greed. I would say they play it safe with the new concepts that they decide to publish now more than then, but they publish games that, for one reason or another, others wouldn't and were able to make them successful. That's why they have their hands on the rights to so many loved game franchises.
I'm not a fan of EA, far from it, but they gave me some of my favourite games over the years. If they published nothing but crap, nobody would even care enough to complain about their business practices.

I got the game over the weekend, after reading all the reviews about it and seeing the 6/10 (and lower) scores people were giving it I still decided to give it a go. (I will not be talking about the games length as this has been covered to death, the game length is decent. That is all needs be said).
I will say this: I can perfectly understand why people are disappointed with it as a thrid person shooter. The reason being that the third person shooting segments are few, relatively short and frankly not that interesting.  In a lot of ways they remind me of Uncharted 1 where there were just 3 enemy types. One of which is an horrific damage sponge with a shotgun. It's okay at best.
As an interactive story however... it's great. The game looks beautiful and every area is really dripping with atmosphere. Clearly whatever other accusations you can level at the game - laziness is not among them. There are quite a lot of quick time events and if these put you off then I would say steer clear, but if like me you've enjoyed games like Heavy Rain and God of War then you might not find this as irritating as some reviewers have claimed.
Ultimately the enjoyment or lack of in The Order may lie with your expectations of what you will be doing and if that involves a lot of pop in an out shooting, then you may well be disappointed. The game treats it's combat segments like action scenes, brief moments of action before returning to the main story.
The story too is pretty decent- not amazing - this isn't the Last of Us or Bioshock - it's decent. Again some reviewers have claimed that the plot twists were badly telegraphed - but this is par for the course with most action games. (Every game with the name Tom Clancy before it will have a member of your team betray you, if you hire Kevin Spacey for your Call of Duty he is the Bad Guy).
A huge point I disagree on however is that some have said that the characters are rather bland. I would disagree with that. I've played Killzone I know what bland is and this isn't it.  Galahad/Grey is a likeable protagonist, snarling and swearing his way through gunfights and the rest of the titular order feel distinct and interesting given their limited time on screen. All the characters are well acted well voiced with some of the best digital acting outside of a Rockstar game.
It is absolutely true to say that The Order is hands down the single best looking game on any system I have ever seen. It is frankly an amazing game to see 'in the flesh' - and it's the first time that this generation of consoles has really stood up and shown us what they can do. (I think of it as kind of the "Gears of War" moment from the last generation).
The problems with the order is that it does several things well, but none of those things include much player agency. The graphics are amazing the story is good and it has great set pieces and action scenes.
But the actual shooting is as basic as it gets, there's not a lot of it and if you hate quciktime events (no matter how well they are used)- your gonna have a bad time.
Finally the lack of any kind of multiplayer or co-op really hurts this game, especially as in most missions you will run around with some kind of buddy.
I know plenty of people I could recommend this game to who would absolutely love it- I also know plenty of people who would absolutely hate it. On that basis it's tough to recommend to others. I however really enjoyed what I played and hope that Ready At Dawn get another chance to learn from this as The Order is a game world I would love to return to someday.
Whilst I like this game, I don't love it- but I can appreciate that a lot of hard work went into it, but maybe not in the right areas.
    My Grade:
    A for effort, C- overall.
    See me after class.

Tales From A Old Drunken Man, Heretic and Anger Part 1

    A Hunter, a Warlock, and a Titan walk into a bar―
The Guardian's armor clad fresh, newcomers.
Their voices loud and proud, their minds ignorant.
They sit at a table, telling jokes in high spirits.
The Hunter yells "Fear not Guardians!" She says to the many in the bar. "For we are chosen, slayers of darkness!"
The Titan raises his glass "Aye, strength!"
The Warlock only cackles like a hyena.
Their loud pride only to be a stopped by a low grit voice, "Arrogant, you young fools are."
The Hunter hearing to what this voice spoke out, questions back "Who dare speaks against us?"
An Old Man at the bar counter speaks but does not look back, "Only an Old Man with stories and drinks."
The Titan and Hunter stand, as if they threaten this man. The Titan demands "Aye, if drinks and stories are all you're. Than I say what waste."
The Hunter speaks with the Titan "Cloth as dirty and mugged as yours shows nothing but dust in age."
The Old Man only laughs, turning to them.
The Old Man stands, staring the three Guardians down. "A waste, dust in age? Poetic. Than how about this Old Man, waste your time with a story?"
Warlock would speak, still in seat "Story of what?"
The Old Man speaks back "Story of The Angry Guardian Army and one of their Mysteries"
The three Guardians caught in silence, motions still.
The Old Man smiles at the sight, "What? Thrall stolen your tongues? Sit, arrogant young ones."

    ...To Be Continued

Note: I quite enjoy the thought of a episodic style story. So you'll see the rest of these parts each Saturday. Leading to the collusion.

If there is one constant in life it's war. War never changes. The land where battles are fight and those we fight might change but the way wars are fought shall never change. There are those who wish to avoid fighting, stay shackled behind the walls while they dabble in politics, then there are those who would rather cast aside those walls and fight with the biggest guns they have without thinking of the consequences or having a plan. We on the other hand know better, that sometimes the way to fight a war is through patience and planning. We want out of the city that is shackled to the abomination that brought the darkness with it and now has a false prophet as a puppet to speak for it. We will show them all that we do not need to fear what lies in the shadows that we are an army of chosen undead. We were brought back from death itself to fight for we will not stand idly by and fall like those before us have when the abomination arrived to them. We won't hide in fear and let ourselves devolve into shells of our former self. We will stand and walk through the realm of darkness and cut down those who fight against us and they will learn to fear us but we won't blindly fight, won't rush into battle without plans and tactics. As the master of the art of war said himself:

"All warfare is based on deception. Hence, when able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must seem inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are near. Hold out baits to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and crush him."
    -Sun Tzu

We will crush those that stand against us through deception, tactics, and hard fought battles. We will let them have their false sense of security while we retreat only to come up from behind and cut them down. War has always been the same centuries before us, and it will be the same centuries after we are nothing more then dust. War never changes.

  21. baronrouker liked a post in a topic by Winnum in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate from a newbies standpoint.
Firstly it should be stated that this is the first Monster Hunter game I have owned. I've played demos of other versions but a lot of those kind of drop you in as if you know what you're doing. I didn't.

That said I've been on something of a kick to try new genres and series recently and as I was picking up the New 3DS on Friday I thought I'd pick up Monster Hunter 4 rather than Majora's Mask as I've already owned and beaten that game twice.

I should say that although I have't owned a game in the series before I do have a vague notion of what the game entails- you go off on hunts kill monsters then grind their bones to make your bread-knives (really really frickin' BIG bread-knives).

What I hadn't appreciated however initially was that equipment is what it's all about.

Whilst arguably an RPG Monster Hunter 4 doesn't appear to have a levelling in the traditional sense. You HP and Stamina are always at a constant base rate, with your equipment really being what sets you apart.

Also during the demo's I had played previously you're always asked to pick a weapon set- I had naturally kind of assumed then that this meant that like a lot of other RPG's you had to choose a class. I was it turned out, dead wrong.  The game gives you one each of all the possible weapon types at the start of the game, which gives you a proper chance to experiment and find the one that suits your play style, without sacrificing hours of playtime to build an alt character. This was extremely handy for a beginner like me - I started out using the great sword but soon found that I found the move set extrenely limiting (it's basically "hit things. HARD" ) So switched to using the charge blade, a sword and shield combo that then transforms into a giant axe for muchos damagos.

There are also a variety of ranged weapons available but none of them really spoke to me, as they all felt kind of underpowered given how slow and ponderous they are to fire. (Veterans of the series may well disagree- it's perfectly possible I was doing it wrong)

In general combat is clunky, slow and methodical but designed to be so; in fact at one point I do remember telling myself "Think of this more like Dark Souls", and from there I had a much better time. Whilst little critters usually go down with a couple of whacks, larger monsters - the objects of the actual hunts- demand respect. (in fact if you're looking for something Dark Soulsish you could cast a glance this way- by no means exactly the same but there are certain similarities).

Whilst there is a bent in this title designed to assist newbies like myself- there are still a few things that weren't highlighted, like the importance of food in the field, and how to properly set traps. (I know two minutes ago I referenced Dark Souls and now I'm complaining that the game isn't helping me. Shut up.)

At this point I've only really scratched the surface of what the game has to offer- I haven't played online yet for example and have yet to take down some of the bigger enemies - but I will say that I really enjoyed my time with the game so far and look forward into sinking more time into it. Also the advantage of having it on 3DS is that I can hunt on the train during my morning commute, which is pretty boss.

This game is deep, challenging, varied and satisfying. It's probably my favourite game of 2015 so far and a lot better than the shit I picked up in 2014. Don't let the fact it's on a handheld sway you, this is the kind of game if it was on PC we would never hear the end of it, and I suddenly know why the fanbase for these games are so passionate.
