When this whole mess started I purposely avoided all videos related to it, for or against Joe.
I started watching Joe because he reviewed a game I wanted to get. I kept watching, even on games I had no interest in, because I thought his videos were funny.
I didn't join the AJSA until years later because I wanted a place to talk about games with other gamers. It might not show it on my profile, but I always love chatting with people like ApexSpartan, CrazyCrab, Legolas_Katarn and many other regulars.
I don't really game with them because of time zones and not being big on multiplayer games, but the conversation is nice and I like being here.

So, I finally finished Horizon Zero Dawn last night. I must say this is the best game I've played on the PS4 since the console was released (with an exception for The Last of Us and Uncharted 4).
The whole setting and story really reminded me of an old sci-fi novelist named Andre Norton. She had a whole After the Apocalypse series that was like Horizon.
I was a little surprised that the "dialogue choices" didn't actually change the ending, but after I thought about it I realized that all of the choices were really elements of Dr Elisabet Sobek's--and by extension Aloy's--personality. The ending might not have changed, but the narrative of how Aloy got there would have. When you watch the holo recordings of Dr Sobek you can see how she could be compassionate, intelligent, or even abrasive, and in the end it all makes sense why you were given a choice as to how to react to each situation. Overall its just beautiful storytelling!
I did cringe a couple times when you would talk to somebody with an elaborate headpiece...and it kept clipping through their shoulders. And sometimes the lip syncing was way off.
But these are pretty mild, and didn't really take me out of the game too much.
I also loved how the machines were never too easy. Even once you got the most powerful weapons and learned the proper techniques to taking down a thunderjaw, it was still a tense battle that could go very very wrong if you weren't quick on your feet!
    9/10 for me!

well back when they had those weekly, and 8 hourly flash deals during summer/winter, the deals often WERE better. But th en they got rid of that, and they said the deals would remain just as good as if you had waited for the flash deals, and that was true... for like 1 year. Now I can't help but notice they are pretty much the same as ordinary sales now.
  6. PlasticFrogCG liked a post in a topic by Kaz32 in The Foreigner film trailer. Jackie Chan: still got it.
Seeing Jackie not in his crazy stunt young self but instead more like Jason Bourne is..... quite weird. He's still got it though so that's cool. Not sure if this film will be surprisingly good or just alright, but at least we'll see Jackie in action again either way!

Psycho Mantis from Metal Gear Solid.
This guy... I mean, up to the point where you fight him he does some really unnerving shit. First off, he creates hallucinations for you, then he unknowingly possesses your sidekick which gives her that dreaded gasmask voice effect (and makes the first person mode look through her eyes with the gasmask HUD), and when you finally encounter him, he reads your goddamn memory card and tells you what other Konami games you've played in the past! Then he does this weird thing where he "psychically" moves your controller using its vibration. It all gets to you.
Then you actually fight him, but well, it's not really a fight, as it's literally impossible to defeat him because he "can read your every move" aka your controller's inputs. Then after failing a few times, Colonel calls you and tells you to plug your controller in the second bloody controller port so he can't read it, like WTF IS THIS SIUDGHDSGHSDGI
And the music, ohhh god the music...

  8. PlasticFrogCG liked a post in a topic by Crazycrab in Horizon Zero Dawn, the spoiler thread
A few very minor issues with the game, but one of the best I've ever played in this genre in a long time.  It borrows allot mechanics from other game but it offers a different take on them that makes them feel fresh and interesting.  The Tallnecks for example are something that I've seem some people dismiss as "walking Ubi towers" but there's clearly so much more to them than that.  Each one presents a different challenge by the enemies that are present or the environment itself, never just a straight climb to the top.  For me that kind of sums it up, it's all familiar but unique.

Not to mention game is drop dead gorgeous!  One of the most beautiful open worlds I have ever seen and I'm including games on high end PC hardware.  Excellent gameplay that blends action and strategy with a creative mix of weapons and abilities.  No two machines are the same and require different strategies to take them down especially if you play on the harder difficulties.

I guess with this being a spoiler thread I guess I'm free to talk about the story including.... well..... Spoilers.  The writers did a great job of introducing the history of the world, our main character Aloy's origins and how she came into it by tying them all directly together.  Some aspect's I saw coming like Aloy's being a clone and so on but it's still a very smart and engaging story that had me really wanting to what this was all about, especially towards the end.  When you start learning about the Horizon Zero Dawn project and how it's intention was to restore the world after it's inevitable destruction and how the HADES A.I is now trying to destroy it again.

Some people have mixed feelings about the ending but I personally found it satisfying, the only thing that was still open was what Sylens and HADES are doing next.  If your of the opinion that it was a bit of a cop out how HADES ultimately survives and that teaser with Sylens and HADES walking towards that Giant Metal Devil is just a cheap way to set up a sequel...... well yeah I see your point.  At the end of the day this first game was about Aloy and we got a complete story arc with her.  The question about her origins where answered and it ended on a triumphant note.  It didn't feel like a cop out to me and It's clear that the Guerrilla wanted complete game before even considering DLC.  They also didn't run with any microtransaction system despite it looking like the game was set up for one with it crate awards for quests and such so huge respect there.

We know that they are working on an expansion and I will be pre-ording that shit and playing day one not just because I loved this game but more so because Guerrilla have earned that trust form me but not having including any kind bullshit cut-of story or microtransactions.  There was a handful of outfits that where pre-order bonuses or through special editions but that's it.

Well that's my two cents, I might have more to say later but for now... Peace out!

I just remembered something about it when I made an account, but maybe it was for something else.
Anyway, Germany was awesome! The only thing that really made me uncomfortable was that I didn't speak the language. But even then, if you ran into someone who didn't speak English they were very patient and you could get by with a mixture of charades and what few words I picked up. Just an absolutely beautiful country, though!
Italy was a bit more overwhelming, there were just so many people everywhere it was kind of hard to really enjoy the grandeur of the monuments. And the way Italians drive is scary!
I've really never been much of a beer drinker, but I am now hooked on radlers and colaweizen!
  11. Crazycrab liked a post in a topic by PlasticFrogCG in Difficulty in Video Games
You don;t need to go as far back as Thief to find a game that did difficulty right.
The first time I played The Last of Us I borrowed it from a friend. It was his suggestion that my first play through be on the hardest difficulty because the experience is worth it. I'm glad I took his advice. The sheer tension of the game really helped to sell the survival story, and I would have missed out on that if I had played through it on medium the first time like I normally do. And to Naughty Dog's credit, they didn't punish you too hard for your mistakes. Every time a clicker got me, it forced me to sit back and try to examine the situation.
Of course, there's bad examples too. Remember God of War? I played it on the hardest difficulty on a whim and was doing OK...until I got into Hades and had to navigate those (*%#@ beams with the spinning blades! And then, after dying a LOT, it would always ask "Would you like to turn down the difficulty?" The problem, of course, was that turning down the difficulty did NOTHING to negate how frustrating the traps were.

Also Assassin's Creed 2 was really good; and I'll lump Brotherhood and Revelations in there, because they're pretty much DLC of 2.

    Saints Row 3...oh, wait.
I'm with Crazycrab, I really enjoyed Vice City, and for much the same reasons. It was just plain fun. Instead of San Andreas I was really hoping they would keep going backward in time and do one set in the 70s.

In Bulgaria we celebrate "Трифон Зарезан" or "Trifon Zarezan" in English,
It's a very old custom which celebrates the winegrowers and the beginning of the cycle of wine-making, usually there were over the top customs way back in the day but in modern times people usually prepare a feast and spend the holiday with their family, friends or both and of course it involves drinking wine!
But in it's essence it's just a way of wishing for good harvests, you know the basic " Appease the gods "
And while happy couples have adopted the Catholic "Valentines Day" single people, like me, usually stick to wine drinking.

So...rather than gripe and moan about how I'm going to be single in my mid 30s this year (too late), I'm actually kind of curious.
We have a really eclectic bunch here from all over the world. Do you actually have Valentine's Day or similar holiday in your port of origin? Or better yet, is it something so completely opposite as to be hilarious compared to the US observance?

It was a horrible system, both for dialogue and character development and for gameplay purposes, I was amazed it made it into the second game much less the final one.

Nothing. As long as it has a story as good or better than the first one I would accept the same exact game! Although I like the kooky side-quest idea, those were fun!
I can tell you what would completely ruin it is an over-focus on the multiplayer. The market is saturated with AAA multiplayer games, particularly those that have a lot of micro-transactions. What I really want is a good, solid single-player experience that last at least 18+ hours.
    ...
    ...
    That totally came out wrong.

  24. PlasticFrogCG liked a post in a topic by Kaz32 in Assassin's Creed film. Will it be good, or will it suck?
    1) We could at least have a cool cameo, like Ezio training the assassins, and demonstrate why Ezio is a likeable badass for people who are new to the series and at the same time making people that know the game happy. And the timing is good too. Assassin's Creed 2 takes place around 1470s - 1499, and the film takes place in 1492, so Ezio can make a visit to spain. If it's done right, the film will become better.
    2) Yes the story of the present time is important, but that should be kept at a minimum. Have more past events happening. The game is mostly about the past than the present after all.
    3) Have a scene where he demonstrates what he has learned after spending time in the animus is what I would want. The games do that after all with Desmond in Brotherhood. Not having scenes where it constantly jumps between him fighting in the past and in the present distracting from the cool stuff happening. Or keep that device, but don't have scenes of jumping back and forth action. Just let the scene flow.

Like I said before, this film could have been so much better than what it is now. You like the film, cool! Glad you like it. But even you know that this film have the potential to be better.

Alright, you know what man? I actually gave this movie a second chance. I actually rewatched it because I want to be fair on the film. Maybe I wasn't feeling the positive of the film and was being overly negative.

And you know what I found out? The characters got better. Now that I know who the modern characters were, I can relate to them.

And you know what else I found out? THE FILM GOT FUCKING WORSE! I now FUCKING HATED THIS FILM! Wow, a film that actually got worse the second time you watch it. That is..... pretty rare.

Now that I have seen it again and analysed it thoroughly, I know exactly when the movie falls apart. The first 30 minutes of the film is great. You are introduced to the characters and the animus, and Fassbender got into the past and do the cool action scene with the scenes of the past and him fighting in the animus mixed together. That is necessary to tell the audience what the machine does, and before I was like "so how can he roll using that machine?" and then I saw that the machine actually tilt to the side of his body so Fassbender can roll. Ok, nice little detail there. Still, I wonder what it looks like when he's just walking forward.

And after the jumping off the cliff part, the film got turned to dogshit.

Ok, first off, why did the woman pull him out during the middle of the scene jumping off the cliff scene? Shouldn't she pull him out after that so he won't fall down like a dumbass and complete the memory? And because that scene stops mid action, naturally he has to repeat that section to reach full synchronization like in the game, BUT nope. He just continue on to the next memory. That's not how the game works.

Secondly, I just realized a fundamental flaw with the scene of him meeting with the other assassins:

why the hell are there other assassins? Why does Abstergo need them? In the first game it's only Desmond because he's the one that has the knowledge of the apple's location so he's the only assassin in the building. Lucy has to get him out in the second game and that makes sense because there's no other assassins in the building.

Fassbender's the only one that has the memory of the Apple of Eden, SO WHY ARE THEY THERE?? So that Fassbender can have that reconciling scene in the end with his dad? Because in the end, even one of the Abstergo people mentioned in the film "oh shit, you know that we just gave these people assassin abilities from making them use the animus right?" SO WHY ARE THEY THERE YOU DUMB SHIT??? WHY DON'T YOU JUST KILL THEM BEFORE??? GRAAAHHHHHHH!!!!

Ok ok ok...... need to calm down.

No, I can't calm down. Because I am sad of seeing the rest of the film falling apart. Especially the second and third past segment where I said before, was RUINED by the jumping back and forth between the past and the present. It works in the first segment to establish what the machine does. But the second and third time? It gets fucking annoying as shit! Why do I need to see present day Fassbender when they're in the middle of a cool fight scene and climbing on the roof? It just ruins the great action scene you dumb shit!! And how can Fassbender got seizure after doing the leap of faith off that building? THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN IN THE GAME!!! And that means he also fails that memory part and has to restart again, but nope! He continues to next memory. BULLSHIT!

And why is it that when Fassbender broke that machine in the third past memory, the memory still continues? And suddenly past assassins come and see him and everyone else see them too? But the machine just got destroyed! THAT SHOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED DAMN IT! THIS MOVIE IS STUPID!

Never watch this film more than once. It will destroy you.

And you know what the most amazing thing about this film is? My older sister watched this film, and she loves it. Mainly because never played the games and she found the concept of the story cool. She thought this film is better than Arrival.

Hihehehahahahahahaha, she thought this film is better, than Arrival.

    No it isn't.

Didn't you know that Fate Stay Night was an adult porn game before it becomes an anime?

Wait2, sorry2. I think we all misunderstand something here. "Video game movies" and "movies based on an existing video game" are 2 different things.

Now movies based on an existing video game are these:
    Assassin's Creed
    Super Mario Brothers
    Dead or Alive
    Street Fighter
    Mortal Kombat
    Fate Unlimited Blade Works film
    Prince of Persia
    Those retard bowl films
    Resident Evil
    Final Fantasy Vii Advent Children
    Lara Croft Tomb Raider
    Sengoku Basara
    Warcraft

Video game movies on the other hand, are more broad.

The Wizard is a video game movie. Well more like a giant Nintendo commercial but there you go.

Wreck it Ralph is a video game movie, because it's a film about the video game world.

Scott Pilgrim VS The World is a video game movie.

The AVGN movie is a video game movie.

Tron is a video game movie.

Ok fine, Gamer is a video game movie.

And Pixels too is a video game movie.

Now that I have split it, it's clearer. Wreck it Ralph is not a film based on an existing video game because there's no such thing as a Wreck it Ralph game. It would be more accurate if the movie is called "Fix it Felix Jr" and it's based on the Fix it Felix Jr game.

But it is a video game movie.

As for games more fitting as a serial, well, Fate Unlimited Blade Works anime is a good one. And Sengoku Basara.

And there's also a pretty good Street Fighter anime.
    And a Virtua Fighter anime

I had the quest to get Medasi in Riften the flawless sapphires. I picked up the quest around level 12. By the time I hit 30 I had found exactly 1 flawless sapphire. I decided to go finish the Dragonborn DLC. By the time I was done and ready to head back to Skyrim I had 12 flawless sapphires!
