Yeah, that's pretty much what I do with all upcoming games. I pay enough attention to official info to know what it's suppose to be about, then continue doing whatever without getting hyped about that up coming game, so when it comes out, I can judge it by the game that was released, not the game I made up in my head.

There was this guy on these forums that was getting all psyched about ArcheAge before it was released, proclaiming it the game that will bring him back to MMOs. I told him to not get too hyped before playing it, but he insisted that after all the videos he's watched every day, and all the info he read, he knew it'd be awesome. Then it came out, and that all quickly fell apart. Thing about video games is that they're something you need to actually play, then if they're an online service you also have to see how well it'll be taken care of, videos, and text just isn't enough to go by.

Ya the immense fanhype might cause some people to cry out when it releases and it's not what they expected.
It's also the reason i stopped watching all of the content they put out. I want to play it when it's out and be "WOW-ed" then. Not be "WOW-ed" by all their trailers and promises but then be "MEH-ed" at release

As somebody who died twice already in Elite:Dangerous because i ran out of fuel, i welcome this ship with open arms.
  4. CptFabulous liked a post in a topic by Icazael in Star citizen or Elite dangerous?
    It's an easy decision really.
Play both.. Elite is out now.. SC PU won't be out before 2016
In elite you can choose to play in a public universe or alone or only with friends btw

Hello there SC fans, over the past couple of weeks there have been some shifts and changes in the background that I will be telling you guys about here.

    Change in leadership
Effective immediately, Commander DamionRayne will be taking charge of Star Citizen as Mortraven is unable to at this point in time. He has been the leader of War Thunder for a year and is a veteran EVE Online player.
I will be staying with Star Citizen as Damions Chief Advisor* and more staff members will likely be appointed over the coming months.
*Actual title pending, some suggestions are "God among men" and "Sacred Supreme High Secretary for super important stuff"

    Changes in policy
There will be a number of additions and alterations to the usual AJSA guild proceedings with the Star Citizen guild. These also include general policies like the prioritization of guild branches, organizational changes, fleet doctrine and more. We'll be building up our final guild structure from here on out; any feedback is appreciated!

There will be a full post on the plan so far including specifics, which will take into account what I've been discussing with you guys over the past few months. If you would like to get more involved in these planning stages, feel free to take a look at what info is already available on these subforums and see if you can make up your mind on what your general style of play is going to be like (as if you haven't already...)- there more we know, the better we can tailor our guild structure to you guys' needs.

As a personal note from Damion, please know that he'll be here for you now and that we're moving forward from here on out!

  15. Icazael liked a post in a topic by Weynard in CryEngine? Who's crying now?
I'm not a software engineer. I have no idea what's behind building an Engine. I suppose it takes "a lot more time" and " a lot more money" to create an engine from scratch, as was said by purportedly competent members of the community. Thus, I'm fine with CIG using an appropriate existing engine. I'm okay with how the game looks and what gameplay was shown so far. If CIG did write their own engine, it would take longer to develop a game thats slightly better, while with CryEngine we are already getting an amazing game.

I'm not going to pull an unreasonable complaint out of my rectum just because I'm upset about foreseeable, engine-related delays I don't know shit about.
  16. Icazael liked a post in a topic by Winnum in CryEngine? Who's crying now?
Yeah I don't think you get how this works dude.
Your comparing building a house with materials to building a  house with bricks and mortar you've made yourself by gathering the clay and turning it into bricks yourself.
Yeah at the end of the day every brick and stone of that house will have been made by your own two hands but it's going to take a hell of a lot longer.
  17. Icazael liked a post in a topic by CHIEKKU in CryEngine? Who's crying now?
I'm not sure what the point of this thread is supposed to be. I'm going to assume it's being upset over the DFM delay.
I don't think you understand the difficulty of writing a game engine. As a software engineer, I can tell you it is no trivial task. It's not like dropping buttons into a form in .NET, where the compiler will do all most of the backend code for you. When you make a game engine from scratch, you are making everything:
How visuals are rendered (DirectX or OpenGL) How sound is rendered (i.e. XAudio) How input is handled (mouse, keyboard, joysticks, gamepads, Oculus Rift, and everything else people want) How memory is managed at runtime (most frustrating part right here) How multiplayer works (don't get me started on the complexity of a network stack); even companies who have been around for a decade still struggle with this (*cough* DICE *cough*) People like to complain how long SC is taking. Well, imagine if first they had to write the engine. There's no content creation until this is done, so you can expect the development process to take way longer. How is that preferable?
There's a reason game developers license an engine: making your own from scratch is absurdly hard and time consuming, especially if you just started your new company and want to focus on making wonderful content. Unless you have a massive team with years of experience, you're better off starting with an engine that already exists.
And, in time, if they want to, they can focus on forking their own engine. It happens all the time. Valve forked the Quake engine to make GoldSrc, and later made Source from that. That makes more sense that starting the game with a blank *.CPP file.

Don't underestimate creating an engine from scratch. If they would have done that we probably wouldn't have seen a hangar module yet or anything else "in game".
Engines are in development for years before a game is being made with it.

Ya i only go there if i'm looking for information. I don't bother with trying to be a reasonable voice between thousands of shouters.

Anyway, there was an article a couple of weeks back on Rock,Paper, Shotgun about a woman who got banned after she posted a thread about starting a woman only organisation. She got a lot of flack in the thread and she got banned because she got branded a troll..

CIG apologized  afterwards and unbanned her but it shows there's a real problem in the moderation there. And the cynical person in me thinks CIG only bother correcting their mistake because the incident got picked up by game journalists.

The hull for both variations are the same. The difference is the loadout that is equiped on the ship. For the stealth hornet you get less weapons equiped on the hull but you have parts (engine, shield, powerplant) that have a lower heat signature so you're less easily noticed.
It's good to remember later in the game you can buy the parts you like and switch from one loadout (like stealth loadout or full weaponpower loadout). So the ship you buy now just determines the initial loadout you'll start with.

"oh it's my turn, let me just take my calculator and excell sheet and spend the next hour figuring out how to make the most profit in this next move"
Not my style of gaming, but there are plenty of people who play their games this way
For example all those people who manage to make a profit out of spending a couple of hours on an in game auctionhouse..
  23. Weynard liked a post in a topic by Icazael in Possible Star Citizen Board game
They explained in the episode that the board game is developed to simulate the economy internally before they program it all out.
If they happen to have a decent boardgame come out of it.. hell why not. as long as the creation of it helps the game forwards.

If you're going to start making squadrons, i wouldn't recommend making with only 4-5 people. In the army it's all well and done because they have to be there 24/7 but with players like us who log in when they have the time, it's going to be rare to have the same couple of people from your squadron online all the time.

Maybe if you make teams of 10-15 people who play mostly at the same time and you practice several strategies together split up in groups of 4 with whoever is online from that team.

Did you ever receive a formal reason why they banned you? Especially why it's a permanent ban?
You can always try to message them to to see why they went for a permanent ban right away.. And quote their own rules.
