Wow, that TW3 review was really great and words greatly of what CDPR (and indeed Andrzej Sapkowski) meant to do with the world of the Witcher. The Witcher 3 is a dark and gritty experience and portrays these dark themes excellently. I love the fact that there is little to no pandering in the game. Think I'm gonna watch a lot of the news from loadthegamenow from now on. Thanks, Tarkston!
  4. Ysnar liked a post in a topic by Traviltar in Mass Effect 4( Or whatever they decide to call it) Wishlist.
    What it's going to be:
The exact same thing as Mass Effect 1, but with updated graphics, more Mako-ing which they now call "exploration"..
You are essentially Kirk and Spock venturing into "the unknown".
I have seriously low hopes for this game. I'm expecting for the UI to be 100% for consoles, no mod support, Origin, Horde-mode with microtransactions, bugs, glitches, choppy animations, small worlds, bland characters that are all gay and not-white/non-human which excuses them from any criticism (Dragon Age: Inquisition. Dorian and Sera), because you don't want the populus to think you're racist or homophobic or something. It's gonna have crap shooting mechanics and crap cover based, last-gen chest-high-wall combat which is apparently "tactical" because the levels are going to be uninteresting corridors with walls. The enemy you'll face (ooh, another ancient power you have awakened, but this is in another galaxy so it's totally not the reapers lol) is going to be THE EXACT SAME THING, the story is gonna end with a cliffhanger, because "mo'money, mo'sequels" next year. After all, that's what EA does. I'm not saying it's all EA. BioWare has made some shitty decisions in the last couple of years (DA2, ME3, ME3 MP, DA:I MP)
I want you to forget all that you loved and hoped for for the next Mass Effect game.
To understand my neverending bottomless pit of hatred, misery and anger for BioWare, you need only to look at the following image.

Trust Bethesda, eh? *cough* paid mods *cough* E3? Look at any game, then when they are released they are severely downgraded. (TW3:WH for example) Oh, sure. They'll say "it was only a tech demo, we couldn't apply it because OUR GAME IS SO BIG AND AWESOME AND SO GOOD, OHMIGOD BUY OUR SHIT"   Never. Trust. Hype. My downfalls: The Elder Scrolls: Online, Wildstar, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Titanfall, Battlefield 4..   Contrare to what IGNorant fuckwits say, DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE.

  7. Puntosmx liked a post in a topic by Traviltar in Depression... any advice on how to deal with it?
Go out with friends. If you don't have any, make some. Do things with them. Play games, watch movies. Internet relationships don't count. Needs to be actual physical social activity. Go out for a cup of coffee, go out shopping for clothes, join a movie club, play DnD with friends.
    Anything.
Social activity with people helps alleviate depression, says this study from 2014: http://www.universityherald.com/articles/11159/20140830/social-activities-depression-queensland-group-bonding-relationships.htm
Now, I'm pretty anti-social. I like eating alone. But don't diminish the factor human relationships have on you.
Also, to get depressed about YouTube dislikes is absurd. Forget about it. Ignore that shit. If there is actual criticism, heed it. If it's just trolls, scroll past. It's YouTube. You don't need to give a shit.
Now, go out and have a cup of coffee. None of that triple frappo mocha shit with sugar and cream. Actual coffee with either cream or milk. Take a few friends with you.
    It'll get better. I promise.
  8. Mr_E_Meatshield liked a post in a topic by Traviltar in So, the reaction some people have to same sex romance in DA: Inquisition...
Well, I can see your point. I don't care for gay sex but what people do behind their bedroom doors is none of my business. I mean, I get you not wanting sex scenes in a game. To have a game revolve around this idea that in order to have the "full experience" you must try to romance someone. I'm a straight guy and in BioWare games I pretty much want to play the generic douchebag that flirts with everything with a heartbeat, then gets into an awkward love-triangles and suggests a threeway between a human and a sexy blue alien/sexy elf woman.
Now, to not play Dragon Age: Inquisition just because it has the possibility of gay sex is your personal choice. You have to remember that it is completely optional, and it's not like it's accidental or "press button, receive gay sex" or basically any kind of sex really. I mean, they couldn't have made flirting etc. any more clearer than they did with hearts and the choices that actively say "Pursue relationship" after like three sidequests for them and tons of dialogue.
To not play Dragon Age Inquisition because it has gay sex would be, even though your personal choice, would be a mistake. Why? Because it is a *damn* good game. It's not like the world of Thedas and the whole game revolves around sex. I mean, it is a BioWare game, and those writers are the horniest motherfuckers in AAA gaming. The writing in romances is pretty crap though. I mean, you really have to kiss ass and you are always - always the person who makes the first move. Well, except for Zevran from DA:O. But pretty much 9/10.
Anyways, like I said, romances are a reaaally small part of the game. It's kind of like the tabasco at your local pizzeria. You can add it to make it a bit more spicier if you want, but you don't have to if you don't like spicy food.
And no, I am not just saying that because I am eating pizza as I write this.
Okay, I was hungry and too fuckin lazy to go to the grocery store. It's like 4 km away and it's goddamn -27 C in there. Can you blame me?
  9. Superdirective liked a post in a topic by Traviltar in iRacing??
Well, it's not like Formula 1 drivers just jump in and get it done. I mean, James Hunt kind of did that, but he was one of the last. And that was in 1979. Trust me, all Formula 1 drivers, according to their personal trainers, go to the gym for at least for 1.5 hours a day and then spend 2 hours in a simulator.
Also, as a dude who played Forza 3, 4, GT3, 4, 5 and even 6 (although only for a little while) I really feel that I did get sort of a headstart to actual sims, in comparison to someone who has only driven a real car on the road. I mean a Gran Turismo veteran could in theory pick up things as they go, if t hey are that sort of "clean driver, takes the right line, etc."
But positional awareness is the first thing that is hard to get right at first. Then it's car control. Then it's both of them at the same time during a race, whilst watching in your rear view mirror, crossing your fingers that the guy behind you doesn't make a mistake under braking, because if he does, you're both out. Doesn't matter at that point who's fault it is.
Let me give you an example what happens when someone without the abilities of car control positional awareness races:

(I am the guy behind him. Note AJSA logo)

The fact that you even say "reverse-racism" A.K.A, "racial prejudice is not possible on white people, because they are the only one's who do it" essentially makes you a racist.
A lot of people arguing that this is a good thing keep on saying the sentence "you know what I mean" which essentially remarkably shows the true meaning of the sentence, which is "I pull statistics and uninformed opinions from my ass"

You meant Western Civilization. You know how hard it is to be accepted as a citizen of Japan as a foreigner? No matter how fluent you are in japanese, no matter how smart, how much effort you put in, you will always be "that one gaijin".
Trust me on this one. My brother lives in Okayama. Faces this plight of race every day.
So no, white males do not dominate and oppress the world as is the common myth,
  17. Zipper liked a post in a topic by Traviltar in Intel, y u do dis :'( (How to do workplace diversity the wrong way)
You think being a caucasian male is a free ticket to the, as you put it, the glass roof top? You think somehow life is unmeasurably easier for people who are white? With shit like this happening all around us? Ghaleon, from unknown sources at this time, already says that this kind of bullcrap is increasing day-by-day, without us even knowing it in the name of "equality".
What happens when we reach that perfect tipping point? That 50% of employees are women, 50% are men, 1/5th of those groups must be of separate race....
This forced, artificial way to force diversity is pretty much as smart as the "War on Drugs" as it has no end goals. There is no "when we reach x number of women in the workplace are women and black, we have finally created a work utopia where diversity flourishes"
My point in all of this was the following.. Intel is a US based company and it's goal now is to have more diversity in their workplace by artificially forcing themselves to automatically dismiss potential white employees, male or female if a co-applier is black, better yet, a woman.
By doing this Intel limits their own horizon of potential by at the very least 2/3rds, and when taken into account that about 48-55% (Did not find accurate statistics in http://www.cdc.gov/, so we can assume by the number of women in the US equals to about 161 million, about 5 million more than men) they are decreasing their chances of finding a good employee to 1/12th in, from my point of view, the worst case scenario.
Think about if. 11 out of 12 potential-employees could be turned down, because they are 1: Not black. 2: Not female.
And this is if every person in the United States of America had the possibility for education of the level needed in the IT industry. Sadly, the education system in the US is very strange and it makes no sense for parents to save up money from childbirth til they are adults. But I digress.
Severely limiting your options is not ever- EVER the way to increase diversity. Diversity needs to happen on it's own by eliminating the cultural prejudices about women and people of different color in the IT industry, or any industry for that matter. Let's not forget. Clean white-collar jobs are DOMINATED by women. women are more likely to have white collar jobs as professionals (23% versus 16% for men) and in administrative support (22% versus 8% for men)
In administrative support the gap in the US is 14 goddamn percent. Should we perhaps also artificially force diversity in white-collar administrative support too by trying to even out the number of secretaries, support workers etc. to 50/50? No, we should not. Because this is not possible as of right now. Think about it. A man as a secretary. Or a nurse. Sounds pretty gay, right? (In that totally not-homophobic way). I've remembered seeing a bunch of comedies where a man happens to be a nurse and saaay, the main characters of the story snort and giggle and ask "Seriously? You're a nurse? LOL" because of the fact that 1: Women tend to steer towards these kinds of jobs. 2: Because the cultural prejudice as of 2015 is that being a male nurse or secretary is totally fucking gay as shit, yo. Also, all those nasty blue-collar jobs like coal miners, sewage workers, truck drivers, construction, road-safety, fire fighting, carpentry, assembly, plumbing and heating, law enforcement.. jobs which are (sadly) culturally in the western world looked down upon as either less important, or less demanding than white-collar jobs thanks to following cultural prejudice like the following: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vUqa09AOO1I/VDsd_TfMz8I/AAAAAAAAAUQ/aeOZYdzyEeI/s1600/Hard%2BPoster.jpg
In these "dirty", "uneducated" "stupid jobs" the amount of men is..
    wait for it...
60 percent as of 2012. The number hasn't changed drastically in three years. Maybe a swing of max 5%.

fine. my next gaming PC won't be having an intel cpu or motherboard.

wanting equality is bad. having equality by natural means is good, but it shouldn't be something to "aim" for, i.e. actively turning away perfectly acceptable and qualified white candidates for jobs just because they are not black, minority, or a woman? fuck that. if intel wants to be racist to my skin colour, then i won't buy their stuff.

i don't support racism. they might see it as being equal, but i just see it as racism. you can't turn away people who are good for a job just based on the fact that you don't happen to have enough of whatever other ethnic group working for you.

"thanks for coming to the interview mr johnson, unfortunately we are unable to offer you a position at this time because we don't have enough women or black or minority people working for us. we will keep your records on file and when we have hired enough of those people first, if a position becomes available we may contact you in the future. "

that's not being equal and providing people opportunities, that's being racist. period.

    http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/139336-Intel-Announces-Diversity-in-Technology-Initiative-at-CES
So Intel just announced that they will be focused on hiring women and minorities because they want equality and diversity in the workplace.  "Intel will use the $300 million to fund scholarships for women and minorities in technology and to support majority black colleges and higher education institutions"
So, let's imagine an unavoidable situation: Intel would pass on a white male in order to hire a less-qualified African-American woman. Why? Based on skin color and gender. Their goal is to "get black women full representation within five years from now in executive/senior official or manager positions".
I am at a loss of words. I mean, is this what we have come to? Being politically correct for the sake of being politically correct? This way of thinking has now infected a major name in Silicon Valley. What happens when it spreads to different companies as well? I brought this up because I see that the tech industry and the gaming industry have very close relationships. So if I wanted to work in the technology field, I very real fear would come up, that whatever my qualifications and/or skills are, I would not be hired because I have lower levels of melanin in my skin cells and the fact that I have a Y-chromosome instead of a pair of to X's.
You know, my 9th grade history teacher had a saying. "Everyone is equal, but some people are more equal than others."
How long until this spreads into the game industry? Or has it already?
(Note: Not a #GG article, even though there is an indirect mention of it in the article.)
"we want to be very clear: Intel believes men and women should be treated the same..."
"Mm, would you smell that? Smells like deep fried hypocrisy fresh off the fryer... Ooh, with a side of irony!"
