Just ran an MSI test while playing Batman Arkham City, optimized for performance. Both my GPU clock and mem clock ran as high as the stock settings would allow. No jumping up and down. Is it possible that I am complaining over a problem that is not the fault of anything, just the sum of my computer parts? :S

Anyway, updating to W7 Service Pack 1 seems to have helped the problem. It also allowed me to run a memtest, which my PC passed.

    Heyyo,
Make sure your SSD's are running latest firmware updates please.
Fallout? Due to how large the open world is? It'll have texture popping. It's just due to how large the world is and your rendering range or the trilinear vs Antisoptic filtering settings.
If you're running Windows 7? Make sure you have Service Pack 1 and all windows updates please.

If it's a TV, you might want to check to see how much VRAM is being used.

Things like MSI Afterburner or EVGA Precision would help to monitor the video card(s).

Simple way to test if you're game will have "pop in"

Is it released, or is it slated to be released on consoles?"
    If yes,
Your game will have "pop in"
    If no,

For the price of the WiFi card, you can get a Powerline adaptor, which would use the electrical cables to establish a LAN link: http://www.tp-link.com/no/products/?categoryid=206&ref=pline

Glad to help. Hope the build goes well.

I think that's great! After looking around for a bit, I found out that the motherboard you suggested actually is cheaper. Only problem is that i have to order it from a different store than the other parts, but that is merely an issue of wait time. I think I'll follow your build since it fits so well with the amount of money I want to spend and has all the components! Thank you!
PS: I have everything available except for the computer itself, so no need to factor in any mice or keyboards.

    At a glance,
-I would strongly recommend getting a good size SSD for your OS and games. It makes a large improvement and isn't a huge investment (get the hard drive as well though for extra storage and things that you don't need to boot quickly).
-Also in regards to the video card performance it will depend on your monitor resolution what FPS you will get so it is hard to say without knowing that.
-I would recommend running a LAN into your computer instead of using a wifi card (this is personal preference but I find it a little more stable for gaming).
-About the power supply I believe the rule of thumb is what you need plus another 10% (I like to generally like to go higher incase you want to upgrade your components in the future or even use it in a subsequent build). Also your card will have a specification on how much instantaneous power in needs on the rail, make sure your power supply can deliver it. Lastly if you can find one modular or even semi modular will make your life a lot easier with cable management.
-One more thing with ram if you have the option I would go with 4 sticks of 2GB instead of 2 sticks of 4gb if your mobo supports it, wont make a huge difference but might give you a little more in the optimization area.
  9. Lossar liked a post in a topic by Shagger in Getting my first proper PC, questions regarding power supply and the GTX 750 ti
If you wanna stick with the mobo and separate WiFi card that's fine, just something worth looking into.

It's really about trying to find the right combination of mobo and card. Leave it with me, I'll do a little homework.

    EDIT

OK, the only real difference between this 750ti http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-video-card-gtx750tioc2gd5

and this 760 i've put into the build http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-video-card-gtx760dc2oc2gd5

is that the 760 has crossfire support and the 750ti does not. I'd still suggest keeping the 760 as I don't think cards at this level will be able to run games effectively in a few years, but two crossfired would probably be fine

The mobo you had didn't have crossfire support, so I've swapped out fow what is actually the same one I've got. This is crossfire compatible and has two additional ram slots, making upgrading a hell of allot easier. It's only a little more expensive, at least according the UK version of PC park picker I'm using. http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/asrock-motherboard-b85mpro4

I've also used the 600w power supply you suggested and picked out a case, but consider the case there for reference purposes only, I'm not recommending it nor not-recommending it.

There's a few things I haven't included. An operating system, your peripherals (mouse/keyboard), monitor, speakers and so on because I don't know if you need them, but if you do, please don't forget to factor them into your budget.

Here is the complete build http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/JxT2ZL

Anyway, that's that, what do you think?
  10. Lossar liked a post in a topic by Shagger in Getting my first proper PC, questions regarding power supply and the GTX 750 ti
I would have recommended and SSD as well (In fact, that's my setup), but for a lower cost PC it's a big slice of the budget.
  11. Lossar liked a post in a topic by Shagger in Getting my first proper PC, questions regarding power supply and the GTX 750 ti
600w is a bit of an overkill, but should leave you covered of you ever upgrade you video care amd/or crossfire/sli

As for removing the power supply from that case and swapping it, I have no idea, part of the reason why I don't trust them.

As for the motherboard recommendation, I've just updated the build with another motherboard of the same brand that has on board WiFi.

    http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/JDwxkL

Something to note though, all the WiFi mobo's that seem to be compatible with the rest of parts don't support cossfire or SLI and I suspect that's probably down to to current choice of video card. Nothing to worry about to much, but It might make upgrading the PC in the future difficult.
  12. Lossar liked a post in a topic by Shagger in Getting my first proper PC, questions regarding power supply and the GTX 750 ti
    Got their first.

I coupled together the parts you listed (or at least as close as I could find) and here is the result....

    http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/pY9VZL

The case you've chosen appears to come with a power supply, and whilst this power supply can provide enough juice for this computer, I'd be rid of it if I were you. There's just something about cases shipped with power supplys I don't trust, especially when they're this cheap. A power supply is not something to skimp on.

I also think that if you want a WiFi adaptor card, why not just get a motherboard with built in WiFi? It's a pretty good motherboard, but you could get one on board WiFi for the same price or less I'm sure.
  13. Lossar liked a post in a topic by BigFloppyDonkey in Getting my first proper PC, questions regarding power supply and the GTX 750 ti
the 750 ti is  nice little card, built for the sole purpose to make a non gaming pc be able to run more demanding games, you won't play any new games on ultra with a high fps count, but if you are into your MMO's, you should be ok, because they tend to be more cpu focused than gpu, which you have covered with the i5 one of the good things about this card is the lower power consumption.
With that set up, you only need a 450 power supply, but if you plan to OC it, get a 550 watt minimum. Also, if you plan on getting a higher end graphics card in the future, get a 650 watt power supply.

I'm not the savviest of people when it comes to this, but I'm pretty sure you'd be better off getting a better GPU than that. It's not a bad card by any means, but I highly doubt it'd last long in terms of power. Maybe go for a GTX 760 or an R9 270X. As for everything else, I'll leave it for the more proficient people. >.>

And don't worry about ''over-informing'', it's preferable that the people you're asking about this know as much as possible.
  16. Dyzzles liked a post in a topic by Lossar in Getting my first proper PC, questions regarding power supply and the GTX 750 ti
So, I am finally starting to have enough money to get myself a proper pc to game on! I decided to start with a mid-range build due to my financial situation, and i want do this properly to make sure I don't waste my money on a PC that does not work properly, or performs too poorly. I have decided to go with the following specs:

Cabinet: Cooler Master Elite 344 mini tower black
    Motherboard: ASUS B85M-G
    CPU: Intel Core i5-4590 socket-LGA 1150
GPU: Asus Geforce GTX 750 Ti
    HDD: WD Desktop blue 1GB
    RAM: Crucial DDR3 BalistiX sport 1600Mhz 8GB (2x4)
Disc-reader: Samsung DVD writer, SH-224DB SATA
Wireless networking card: ASUS PCE-AC56 AC1300 Wireless adapter dual band 400+900 mbps

    I have the following questions:

    1. How large of a power supply do i need to power this computer?

    2. Is the GTX 750ti a decent card? To put some perspective to it: I primarily play CS:GO and LoL, and I would like to achieve 60+ fps in CS:GO. I would also like to play some never and more demanding games, like for example the Far Cry series and Battlefield, but I do not aim to play these games at the highest settings, or necessarily have an average framerate of 60 or higher.
I am sorry if this post is a little messy, contains bad grammar, or if I am "over-informing". It is my first time and I want to do it properly.

All replies and advice are greatly appreciated!

exactly. it appears to be made by people who love postal, but wanted a dark / sinister touch on that kind of gameplay.

it's still just an artistic impression. i am pretty sure they will put up some notice before the game starts that it is entirely fictional and not based on any real life events. they would have to do that anyway as it's now a legality in a lot of violent video games.

not only that, people tend to forget that it doesn't matter at all what the media or any of us think about this game - at the beginning of the trailer it has an ESRB notice stating it's for mature audiences. that implies it will receive a classification. if the ESRB gives it a classification it's then legal for sale. there's no reason why PEGI in europe would not give them a rating either. classification boards have the final say on what we can play and what we can't. if they give games like this, manhunt, GTA, and so on classifications then anyone who would want to play this doesn't need to worry.

the media can cry all they want. end of the day democracy is democracy. people should be free to play what they want without being ridiculed on their personal tastes.

This seems to me like an interesting concept and idea, wasted in an attempt to squeeze as much shock-value out of it as possible.

Imagine if the person you play as would actually be a real character instead of this emo, wannabe badass stereotype that is portrayed in the trailer. Imagine if we get to play as the character and witness him as he descends into anger and madness. Instead we get this generic drivel that is trying way too hard to shock, with a character that is pretty much the ultimate emo stereotype.

Also, regarding the argument that this kind of stuff is often shown in movies and TV: when this happens, it usually has a point. It is not about the degree of violence, it's about how the violence is applied. Take for example the Uwe Boll movie (yes, I know, Uwe Boll) Rampage. Even he had the capacity to understand that there is more to a mass murderer than just "f you world, I'm gonna shoot stuff now!". You get to see what drives the characters motivation, what ticks him off. It's not enough to say that a person wants to kill because he hates people, we need to know WHY he hates people, and we are told so during the course of the movie, even though it is not exactly executed masterfully (again, Uwe Boll).

Even if there are no character driven reasons for mass killing, there should at least be a story related reason. A good example of this is Manhunt, by Rockstar Games. In this game, the main character is captured by a sadistic snuff movie-maker, and forced to commit gruesomme murder on tons of people in order to survive. This makes a lot more sense than "grr, I fucking hate this species, so dark, much brutal, grrrr". There is a real, relatable internal goal that drives the character: survival.
Taken this all into account, I'd also argue that this hinders our ability to explore any dark sides of humanity, because the character simply isn't human. He is not a person, and he is not driven by human motivation. Don't misunderstand, there are definitely games that are capable of exploring these dark territories, but it isn't this game

Now, after all of this: do I think the game should be banned? The answer is no. It is still an artistic work, and it is protected by freedom of speech and the right to artistic expression. Even though I might not personally like it, there are others who will find some value in this. I could also imagine that this game could have be used as some form for therapy (If you've played GTA you know what I'm talking about), thou this game might be a bit too much for my personal taste.
I don't know if I actually said anything of value there, I just wanted to take part...

    Oh my god... This game...
The main character looks like Nathan Explosion if he went off the deep end, sounds like every emo "badass" main character EVER, the script reads like something you'd hear from a parody game commercial on a TV show, the gameplay trying so hard to be brutal and shocking that it just comes off as adorable on the dev's part, and lest we forget the title art looks to be aping Doom, of all things...
Oh, and the name. Was "Lack of Creative Wit" taken?
I've not laughed this hard at someone seriously trying to make me shocked in far, far too long.

So I've hopped into a game of League after a month of taking a break and just played one game with Okito on Teamspeak. So I'm officially out of retirement and getting back to it. Reason I decided to take a break in the first place is because of some issues I've had, biggest one being I was hospitalized for a few weeks.

Last time before we decided to bring all these changes in League for AJSA, we had a thread where everyone posted their summoner names so that everyone could play together, but problem with that is, the thread got outdated quickly, everyone started to post their summoner names and probably most members didn't add each other afterwards so I'm going to try a different approach.

Instead of just spamming your Summoner names in one thread, you can just add me: ZabuzaYo (EUW)

I've created a group in my friendlist called "AJSA" in which I will group all AJSA members that add me. That way I will easily know who is from AJSA and it will be much easier for me to actually get games, events and everything else organized. For those of you who really want to play together with other fellow AJSA members, feel free to add me and I will hook you up with rest of the members that I have from AJSA. This way we can all play together, stay in contact, organize casual games and whatever else needed. Also, we can easily team up in Teamspeak 3.
You are not forced to come to Teamspeak, but if you got a mic and you aren't too shy remember that Teamspeak is always open, that's why we have it. Plus it's a lot more fun and we can all talk to each other rather than type.

As I've said, feel free to add me on League and we can play together, I can also let others members add you and so on. It's easier for me to take care of it myself rather than have a thread where everyone spams their Summoner names, but nobody actually adds each other.
Like this, you add me, I can invite you to games and I can let other members that I have add you and so on. It will be much easier for me to keep in contact with everyone and it will be easier to keep in touch and organize games.

For those of you who got microphones, don't forget about our Teamspeak 3 channel and our League of Legends room:

Remember that you are not forced to be there, but if you got a microphone why not?^^
    It's easier and it's more fun. Of course, if you keep on feeding, please keep your raging to yourself and don't hold your Push to talk button so we don't have to hear you punching your wall. (;

If you got issues connecting to Teamspeak or don't know how to, feel free to send me a PM.

I think this would also be a good idea if Seph is willing so mate if you want, edit my post and add your name below mine if you wish to use the same method for NA. This is personally good for me as it will be easier for me to organize games and everything else.

First of all, I want to thank everyone who has attended the meeting to help us out and share your ideas. Few more members wanted to join, but were unfortunately unable to, but there will be other chances and more meetings some other time.

So the point of this thread is to share everything we talked about now so that you are all up to date on all information and things happening around here.

    1. For those who didn't notice, I've been recently promoted to LoL EUW Leader to help out in the EUW side, organize events and tournaments. Before we decide to organize a tournament for EUW, we really need to get more players and members from EUW to join us first before starting with tournaments for the EUW. You can help out with that by inviting your friends to join us and invite people you meet in-game. I will open a chat group in LoL for AJSA EUW which we will basically use as a in-game roster so we can all meet up and play.

    2. We are going to organize events AND tournaments in the AJSA, events will be more casual stuff while the tournaments will be for those who are more committed and want to prove they are the best. Why? Because the plan for now is to find out who the best players in the AJSA are and get them together to organize a team and make it the official AJSA LoL E-Sports team. AJSA has a official DOTA 2 team so why shouldn't we?
These tournaments will of course be for everyone and they will also include prizes in form of RP. The details about the tournaments and everything will be of course posted in the announcement before the actual tournament is up. We will hold these tournaments both for NA and EUW, but before we do it for EUW, we need more active people from EUW of course. The tournaments will be held every few months and we will try to organize them on Fridays and Saturdays. However such details will still be discussed later. Just so you know, everyone can sign up for these tournaments, no matter which division and once we figure out the best players in AJSA, we will slowly start to get into starting a official AJSA LoL E-Sports team.
However this is a slower process and we must go slow with it because real money from AJSA will be used to support the team, get them into tournaments and so on, so this will be a slower process, but we will start getting into it.

    3. As I've already mentioned before, we will also be organizing casual events whenever possible and these will be held every one or few weeks. These will just be fun casual events and they will also be announced. These events will be organized both for EUW and NA, I will take care of it for the EUW, while Seph can help out on the NA side. Since Seph is busy as a leader for Wildstar, I will do my best to help out there as much as possible in any way I can.

    4. We encourage everyone to join our Teamspeak Channel and join the LoL section whenever you are playing the game so you can play with your fellow members. As I've said at the start, I will open up a AJSA EUW chat group which will act as a in-game roster. For those of you who play in NA, just remember that the NA chat group already exists so just contact Seph for more information.
If you are unfamiliar with how to use our TS server, all info is here: http://angryjoeshow.com/ajsa/forum/10-ajsa-tutorial-videos-guides/

If I'm not wrong, Seph will open a thread where you can post your ideas for events and any other suggestions. I will also open a thread for coaching new players to LoL who joined AJSA and I will see if anyone else wants to coach. If you are interested in coaching, I will add your name into the thread, new players can add you and it will be your chance to breed some new blood into League of Legends.

For final note, we are all trying to bring the LoL section here more active and we got big plans for the future so we ask every one of you to help us out, be active in the forums, in-game and use the TeamSpeak channel. I will do my best to get more people into AJSA from EUW and organize events here and once we have enough people active, we can start with tournaments. Seph will be handling the NA side, but since he is busy with Wildstar, I will also do my best to help him out there any way I can. I can just play casually on NA due to my ping being too high (around 200) so you won't see me playing there a lot or trying to make plays....

So if you want to help out, make sure you invite your friends here, invite new players you meet into the in-game AJSA chat groups, invite them to the forums and of course, try to join Teamspeak whenever you can. Even if you don't have a microphone. We will do our best to organize events and tournaments to keep this place alive and growing, but we also need your help and to stay active.

This would be all for now, as I've said, this is all the information we discussed on this meeting and I want to thank all who participated. Hopefully next time we get even more. If you got any questions, feel free to ask here.
