  1. Kedric liked a post in a topic by Kaz32 in Antman movie review. Oceans Eleven meets Antman. And Michael Douglas. Funny and great!
Watched this movie with my brother in law in this far away from the city cinema since the one nearby was completely renovated till December. Marvel is on a roll man!

The story of the movie, surprisingly, is after Age of Ultron. It doesn't star Henry Pym the original Antman, but the new one Scott Lang, a master thief electrician. Scott got out of jail, and his old friend immediately set him to a heist mission, which turns out to be the house of Henry Pym, played excellently by Michael Douglas. After a pretty good heist scene, Scott found the antman suit, used it, got shrunk down, freaked out since he's chased by a rat and got stepped on by people, and decided to say "FUCK IT, I'M GIVING THIS THING BACK MAN!!!", got captured by the police after he returned the suit back, and Henry Pym recruits him as the new Antman so that he can steal a high tech gadget + serum that must be destroyed before it falls to the wrong hands. This is a funny ass premise.
Now I know what some of you are thinking. Why Antman? Why not the Avengers that handle this? Scott Lang actually also asks this question, and Henry explains the reason why. Henry Pym and Howard Stark, Iron Man's dad are rivals, and he doesn't want Tony Stark to steal his tech. And he doesn't want the Avengers to blow shit up like in Age of Ultron. You can tell that this movie's going to be hillarious, and you're right. This movie is as funny and self aware as Guardians of the Galaxy, but with Antman instead of those guys. And it's great.
As expected from a Marvel movie, the special effect of this movie is definitely great. The intro of the movie shows a young Michael Douglas, possibly by either a convincingly good mask or CGI, and it looks great! It's like Tron Legacy with young Jeff Bridges, only much better.

Antman has the power to control ants, duh, and can shrink to small size while having the power of a regular human. It's pretty funny seeing this small sized person just kicking ass over guys 10 times his size, and so many scenes in this movie's comedy comes from just looking at this small guy doing fights on such places like a THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE TOYTRACK.

I almost have a nightmare seeing this guy's face.
There's also a cool fight segment with one of the Avengers in this movie. Too bad there's only 1 Avengers that's doing the fight, the other one is in the end after credits scene. Still cool and it actually ties this movie to the next Captain America movie.
So many good characters in this movie. Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Michael Douglas as Henry Pym, Evangeline Lilly as Henry's daughter Hope, and the funny as hell Michael Pena as Scott's buddy Luis. These characters are excellent. They are all very sarcastic people, especially Michael Douglas who's this no nonsense guy that has the best comical rebounds after Paul Rudd ruins every serious moments in the movie.
Michael Pena is also great in this movie. He's the fast talking comic relief and everything that comes from his mouth is comedy gold, especially the part where he just mentions an info that got from his friend, that the friend got from this biker gang dude, that the biker gang dude got from this puta. That scene is accompained by a flashback and everyone in there speaks with Michael Pena's voice. Muah, byoutiful! He needs to be in more comedies man. The last movies he was in were these serious movies like End of Watch and Fury, and while he's funny in End of Watch and good in both, those are freaking depressing ass movies. He's perfect here.
On the flip side, the villain, Yellow Jacket, is just this generic cliched "I WILL BE BETTER THAN YOU OLD MAN!!!" type. Guh, after such excellent bad guys like Loki and Ultron, now we go back to this cliched villain? He's a good Lex Luthor though, better than that Facebook owner in that upcoming Batman Vs Superman movie.
It's also lame that one of the plot in the movie is left hanging. Like there's this one confrontation scene at the final part of the movie where Antman is interupting Yellow Jacket's business deal with another villain, and after they start fighting, that other villain escapes never to be heard from again for the rest of the movie. Nobody even asks "what about that guy? Where did he go?" Even though he's pretty damn dangerous.
Great movie overall. Although the villain is boring and one plot point is completely ignored, the rest of the movie is great, fun and funny. A great enjoyable movie to watch with the whole family! I give this movie the rating of "A bunch of ant in an ant farm fighting an evil corporation out of 10"
    9 out of 10.

Disclaimer: I'm a PC gamer mostly, but also play on console. I love both, they each have great things about them. Keep that in mind when I say the following.

First off, I will never understand how someone can not tell a major difference between 30fps and 60fps. That is not a PC master race statement for those who will turn it into one, just a personal observation by me. They are drastically different to my eyes, day and night even, especially in an action game. Having said that, 30fps is perfectly playable and I even still play games on my PS3 at 720p and 30fps.

Second, I hate fan boys, and anyone who knows me, knows I hate very few things. Please stop... all of you, PC or console. It's just stupid. Play what you like, how you like. We can talk about things without it getting turned into that.

Third, please stop taking topics of logical debate not framed as fan boy nonsense, and turning it into such. People can disagree, or have differing opinions on topics, and not be fan boys. Frame rate and resolution are perfectly acceptable topics to debate, without the fan boy nonsense being added in.

Crypt of the NecroDancer, Invisible Inc., Door Kickers, Nuclear Throne, Wasteland 2, Divinity Original Sin, Project Zomboid, Darkest Dungeon, Prison Architect, Kerbal Space Program, The Forest, Galactic Civilization 3 (well the studio head doesn't care about his personal reputation but the games are all high quality), Legends of Eisenwald, Sir You Are Being Hunted, Sunless Sea, The Long Dark, Bro Force, Hand of Fate, Tabletop Simulator, Don't Starve Together, Speedrunner, UndeRail, Battle Brothers, etc would prove that wrong.

Good reason to get it on PC I suppose. If you own one that is.
  7. Kedric liked a post in a topic by DemonsColt in Batman Arkham Knight review. A fitting end to the Arkham trilogy.
(PS4 version) Arkham Knight has one of the bleakest, darkest, most terrifying stories I have ever seen in a action game. This is like the "Spec Ops: The Line" of superhero games. I think it may be even darker than Nolan's films. It's like if WB handed the Batman franchise over to David Fincher. So far, the story is definitely the best one in the series.

Con: TOO MUCH BATMOBILE, and it controls terribly.

Wow you flew through the game. I should be done by the end of this week, at least I HOPE I have time. I want to continue playing it so bad. I managed to tweak it enough to run at 60fps, most of the time, and it's so much better. Great review!!
  9. Kedric liked a post in a topic by Kaz32 in Batman Arkham Knight review. A fitting end to the Arkham trilogy.
So, I'm Batman, for the last time in the series for now. And this game is freaking fantastic. For the most part.

Just before we start, please don't mention anything about the PC port. We all know that it's HORRIBLE, and it's currently in process of being improved considerably.

So the game actually starts nine months after the event of Arkham City. I will not spoil that game's ending for you that haven't played it. If you haven't, go play that game first. If you have, then all you need to know is that after the event of that game, Scarecrow takes the center stage as the main villain in this game, alongside this new military group lead by this villain called the Arkham Knight. He threatened Gotham with his new fear gas, which causes everyone in the city besides the supervillain gangs and the police to be evacuated 1 day after he demonstrates the terrible effect on tv. So it's up to Batman once again to stop him and all the other villains from destroying Gotham once again!

If you have played the previous Arkham games before, then you know what to expect. Combat has new varieties and moves. Now you don't have to do a ground takedown that makes you open to attack at a downed enemy. You can just keep on punching them on the ground till they get knocked the fuck out. Or make them stand and just beat the shit out of them. There's also environment takedowns, which are instant knockouts and can be done when enemies glow blue nearby objects like searchlights or electrical boxes. The coolest addition to the combat is the double teaming. In some parts of the game, you can work together with Nightwing, Robin or Catwoman, and beat the crap out of everyone else together. And it works really freaking well!

Predator mode is also mostly the same, except a few new gadgets which are pretty cool. One is a hacking tool which can be used on objects like a nearby power generator to make it explode and knockout enemies. The other one is a voice changer which fools enemies and lure them to any location that you want for a takedown chance. New enemy types include robotic cyphers, kind of like this one from MGS2

You can hack it and make it attack enemies which is sweet. Other enemy types include a medic which annoyingly will revive fallen enemies unless you beat them up first, and giant gatling gun brutes which can only be knocked out by beating him up dozens of times or using environmental takedowns. My advice is to eliminate the giant last since it'll draw attention if you don't.

The newest and most talked about addition to this game is of course, the batmobile. Used to fight mostly against Arkham Knight's unmanned remote controlled tanks and choppers.

I love this car. It can transform from driving mode to battle mode, and during battle mode, it has features like a machine gun, a cannon, multiple homing missiles, and later on there's EMP shocks and hacking enemy tanks abilities. Chasing enemies requires you to drive and ram their cars, or use a homing missile until their cars flipped. For enemy pedestrians though, you can just ram them at full speed and they'll just be knocked down and gets electrocuted without getting killed. How is that possible? I don't know.

Battling is not the only thing the car is used for. You can also use it to solve Riddler puzzles! Like this one which is pretty cool.

Speaking of Riddler puzzles, DAMN. So freaking many of them. Unlike previous games, this time you explore the ENTIRE Gotham City. To give an idea on how big this game is, I completed Arkham Asylum collecting all 100% of the Riddler challenges in around 14 hours, while I completed Arkham City 100% in 20 hours. In this game? 40 hours. I spent 1 week playing this game till the end just now. Not as big as the Witcher 3 but STILL. Biggest game of the series to date!

One thing that I don't really get is why there isn't any fast travel. Arkham Origins before has it, why not this game? But I guess since you can just fly and use the batmobile really2 fast there isn't any point to it. Still, it'll be nice to have it so you can just travel to specific buildings that can be entered.

The story of this game, compared to the previous 2, is reaaally fucked up. Holy shitballs this game is dark. There's twists in this game that left me stunned for 1 minute after I saw it, and it makes me just want to say "nonnonono, that can't be real. THAT CANNOT BE REAL!!" You'll see what I mean once you see the twists.

And unfortunately, that dark twist doesn't include the identity of Arkham Knight, because his identity is so obvious even before the game tells you. Oh man. As soon as he opens his mouth, I know exactly who this guy is. Any of you who follows the comic book will feel the exact same as I am, and you will probably guess who this guy is after listening to him talk. My God this guy won't shut up does he?? If he just kept his voice calmer and is less of a primadona teenage punk, his character would have been SOOO much better and less predictable to figure out. For those that don't know about the comic, don't worry, the game will explain it to you later.

The other thing that I don't like about this game are some of the boss battles. Some of them are such an anti climax, that they will make you go "that's it? THAT'S NOT A BOSS BATTLE!!". Remember this awesome boss fight from Arkham Origins?

The boss fights in this game doesn't even come close to being that awesome. They're mostly just the same battles that you have done a lot before, and there's one boss fight that's just a regular predator mode battle. The best boss fight in this game is when fighting the Riddler after you completed and collected all of his trophies, and the other ones involves the batmobile, which has you doing MGS sneaking against giant tanks with weakspots behind them, and this other one with Arkham Knight underground.

Other than those 2 issues I have, the game is otherwise the same great game as Arkham City and Asylum, even more so with the gigantic world and batmobile gameplay. The game has 2 endings. One if you don't complete the game 100% and decide to end it early, or the other one if you complete it 100% and end the game. Difference is that the 100% completion ending expands on the normal ending, so I guess you can say that there's only 1 ending to this game but you can just see half of it if you end the game earlier.

I say this game is definitely one of the best game of the year. Currently in second place. The first being Witcher 3, but it's still damn good. I give this game the rating of "so awesome that once you finished it, you will play this game's new game + to play it again!"

Alright, 2 down, now waiting for MGSV Phantom Pain, Just Cause 3, Mad Max, and of course, Fallout 4. This year has been really good so far!
  10. Laserrifle125 liked a post in a topic by Kedric in Should WB would not outsource any PC games to the third party companies?
I would like all development of a game to be kept in house, but that's my opinion. Whether that's always realistic, I'm not sure. Honestly, I think it's a bit much to expect that. Obviously in the case of Arkham Knight, things did not go well... but how many games were outsourced and worked as expected? I'm going to guess quite a few. It's typical human nature to only see the bad scenarios and ignore the good ones. I think Warner Brothers and Rocksteady need to be made aware that a bad PC port is unacceptable, regardless of outsourcing or not, and I think that has been done. I don't think outsourcing itself is to blame, just bad judgment and poor quality control by all parties involved.

Made a lot of progress in the story. Holy shit it's crazy. So there's co-op battles with Cat Woman which lets you switch characters VERY FLUIDLY AND PERFECTLY, there's a territory game where you have to eliminate tanks to make it save for Gotham police to take over it, and there's a monster in this game that comes out of nowhere on the rooftop that scares the SHIT out of me. Turns out that monster is Man Bat from the comic book, and he's as freaking scary as ever here. Man, I did not expect that scare at all.

  14. Kedric liked a post in a topic by Kaz32 in Batman Arkham Knight first impression. I'm Batman. Once again. YES!
Alright, from here on out, let's talk about the actual gameplay of the game and not about the performance issues.
I have a really2 good idea on who the Arkham Knight is. He just opens his mouth and say all the things he said, which reveals quite a lot, and kind of makes me go "oh boy, there's only a handful of people that can say what he just said." I haven't been spoiled thankfully. This is just me making a guess.
Now in a good movie like Captain America the Winter Soldier, Star Wars Empire Strikes Back, the Scream series and Big Hero 6, if you want to have a shocking identity reveal of a villain, don't make him talk too much until his identity is revealed. It makes the reveal more powerful and makes you go "gasp! Oohhhh shiiieeeeeet"
Don't have the villain talk a lot like in this game! It'll just narrow down the list of suspects a lot! And I actually had other people that I think this guy could be. Prometheus for one. Not anymore! But I hope he's not who he turns out to be. I want to be surprised by his reveal.

I'll first say that I LOVE the story of Arkham Knight so far, as well as the mechanics, especially the batmobile.

However, the comments about the quality of the port are true. The game runs TERRIBLE. My advice?  For the love of god DO NOT unlock the framerate from 30fps. You will cry a bloody river and scramble to lock it again. Other than that, the game runs fine AS IS and is more than enjoyable. If you simply can not play it unless it's 60fps, then don't even start the game up. Wait a few months until it gets patched. I'm loving it to much to care otherwise, to be honest, so I'm leaving it as is. I've never been one to care much for the 30fps to 60fps debate, although I certainly would prefer 60 in an Arkham game.

My problem is the price point. It's double the cost of the two expansions yet sounds like to have nearly everything the other two have, with new subclasses. That isn't 40 dollars worth of content and I'm not really thrilled that it's partially Hive based, at least Oryx. The Taken could indeed be entirely new but I'm thinking if it involved with Oryx it's just going to be more types of Hive. I'll see what they show at E3 but I'm not going to spend money on this if this is indeed everything we are getting.
