  1. Is there a "What was that game again" thread floating around here? Funny story, my cat stepped on my keyboard and opened up a bookmark that I haven't used in years: an archive of old DOS-based games that have been nearly forgotten by time. As I perused the list, one game, in particular, kept coming to mind...except I can't remember the name of it! I remember it was a fighting game, I remember all the protagonists were female, and I remember that you fought in giant robots. But it is NOT One Must Fall (which I also played a lot back in the day). I think it was called Grappler Angel or something like that.
  2. Wow. This game is freaking awesome. Here's why. You once again play as BJ Blazkowizc being the badass he usually is. The game's story takes place after the last Wolfenstein game. Death whoever that old bald evil scientist is got away from BJ in the last game, so BJ and his team must assassinate the guy. And from what the trailers suggested, they failed. Horribly. BJ got sidelined and paralysed because an explosion sticks a shrapnel piece into his head. He's can't do anything but get treated in a looney bin, until 14 years later he recovered from his paralysis, and the adventure to wipe out all Nazis begins again. The story of this game is surprisingly good. BJ in this game is much more deeper in character than he was before. He's a damaged guy after all the shit he saw in the previous games, quite smart when he's doing inner monologues and the stuff in the game really pisses him off so much that you can feel that this guy is going to rage out in a spectacular fashion, and he does. Along the story, you'll meet different characters that will assist you in game. They have great personalities which makes you care about them, which is quite rare for a game like Wolfenstein to pull off. One of the 2 characters in the game will play a bigger part in the story if you make a choice at the start of the game, and they are both cool fun characters: Fergus, the cool badass pilot that's cool headed no matter what the situation is, and Wyatt, a bright rookie that's quite the badass as time passes on. Making one of them a major character will change one side character you meet later. The settings of this game is interesting. It's a what if scenario if Nazis rule the world, and it looks cool will all the mech and Jin-Roh esque soldiers roaming the streets. Unfortunately this place is run by the worst kinds of people ever that will make your life a living hell. How come soccer match fouls are punishable by death? How come all songs in this place has to be sung in German? How come children that's unfortunately born deformed get executed? What a bunch of pathetic monsters! Good thing you as BJ lays the smackdown on all their asses later. The gameplay of this game is classic Wolfenstein. If you have played Return to Castle Wolfenstein or Doom 3, you'll know exactly what this game plays like. Loot health items and armor, grab guns, grab collectables, and blow up enemies to pieces with your weapon. It's a nice change of pace from the usual Call of Duty and Battlefield game style of shooting and hiding when you get injured. There is a cover system in the game, and it's pretty useful especially when you are facing up enemies that's ganging up on you from all positions. The game also have the option to go through missions in the game stealthily, like Dishonored if you don't have that useless option to go non-lethal by just choking them. You can choose to play the game stealthily or go guns blazing. Here's a tip though, always kill the commander through sneak kills first before you go guns blazing. Killing commanders this way will unlock collectable positions on your map. If you kill them by going guns blazing, you won't get the position for collectables and you'll have to just search the map and wish to get all of them in one go. The game has unlockable perks which you get by doing certain actions that the perk requires you to do. For example: kill 5 enemies by sneak kills. Do 10 headshots with a pistol. Kill 50 enemies while using cover with a machine gun. Getting the perks are beneficial for combat because it will let you get extra damage or extra defences, so make sure to complete the requirements so you'll be even more badass. Most of the weapons in the game are typical fps weapons. You know, sniper rifle, machine gun, shotgun, pistol. But one weapon is really badass, and it's a laser weapon. This badass mother fucker is the shit. At first you start out using a pistol version of this gun. Then later on you get a bigger version. This weapon has 2 modes of fire, laser and normal fire. Laser is for cutting metal and fences so you can get through, and normal fire is for blowing enemies to blood and guts. This weapon runs on battery though, and must be recharged to fully use it's awesomeness, but it's worth it. This weapon has tons of upgrades that you can attach as you progress through the game. At first it's just a normal laser cannon, then it turns into a laser assault rifle, then a laser rifle that can bounce, then a laser rifle that uses a scope to lock on multiple or a single giant target that can blow them all up to pieces in 1 shot. Damn this gun's awesome. The game overall is long. It'll take around 9-10 hours to finish the game. Good thing is that the game has a lot of varied gameplay moments. One moment you're in a camp sneaking, the next you're underwater, and then in space. All of the stages are solid and fun to play. There's no multiplayer mode though, and once you beat the singleplayer, you have already seen most of the game, unless you want to make an alternate decision in the beginning of the game and see how the game changes, or you want to find all the collectables. Overall, a great fps game that's surprisingly solid on story, gameplay and variety while being old school at the same time. I give this game the rating of "so good you can't wait for the sequel (if there is any)".
  3. Name a couple of Games dating back to the NES That You want to see Get Remade For the Current Gen.
  4. Remember the times when the old RE is so popular that most games afterward copy it? I'm sure there's a couple of them that you all know about, with the awkward camera angle, the need of pressing R1 to aim and X or square to shoot, or the inventory system that's limited.\ \ Now is the time to get back to the past and unload all the RE clones so we will know and play them for ourselves. No need to be an exact copy, just the ones that reminds you of RE when you play or see it.\ \ I'll start first. There's one game I know of that's a copy of the old RE called Countdown Vampires.\ \ \ \ Basically RE in a casino with vampires instead of infected people. The cutscenes in the game looks awesome for 1999 PSX standards while the in game graphics, it's passable. It has a unique gameplay where you can choose between stunning a vampire enemy and use water on them to turn them back to normal humans, which I guess will give a good ending in the end but I don't know since I'm playing it right now and I haven't finish it yet, or just blast them with your handgun. There's a currency system in the game which you can gain by scavenging and playing roulette and slot machines, which is very2 weird when you think about it. Why not just break the casino machines and take the money? Oh well this is the time where such a thing is not thinkable. You can also buy items with it through a vending machine such as an energy drink, an energy snack and a water bottle. The energy drink is basically the green herb, energy snack is the first aid spray, and the water bottle is basically the red herb so you have to combine 3 energy drinks into the water bottle to get full health recovery item. You may think why not buy the energy snack all the time, but one vending machine only gives out 1 energy snack so you have to search for another vending machine to buy the energy snack elsewhere. \ \ Several problems with the game though.\ \ 1) Your starting weapons in the game are a stun glove and a stun dart, which takes 8 hits to knock an enemy down. Ammo is scarce and the enemies are really fast so you'll bound to get hit even if you hit them from far away. It's not until the later parts of the game where you gain more stronger weapons like the shotgun or the handgun. So in the meantime, run like hell when you see 4 vampires at the same time or else you are dead.\ \ 2) There's grammatical errors everywhere. I can nitpick most sentences in the collectible files apart.\ \ 3) The voice acting is HORRIBLE! This game makes the voice acting in RE1 and MindJack sounds like the Legacy of Kain series in comparison. The sentences are awkward and the character's voices are so monotonous with ridiculously out of nowhere tone changes. One particular scene has the character screaming and it's so painful to hear because it's 30 seconds long and it's like.... like..... I can't describe the shittyness. It's just bad ok. Here's the opening to see how awkward the voice acting is.\ \ \\ Uuuuuuugh, it's so bad that I feel a shiver down my spine when I hear it again. Other than that though, this game's fun to play.\ \ So what's the other games you know that's similar to the old RE? Let us know about it.}

  6. Good day fellow AJSA members When people mention the might and magic games people usually automatically think of the great Hero's strategic games. But i see very few people mention the old rpg games. For a little back story: Many of the might and magic games was set in the same universe as the heroes games, were you meet creatures and characters from those games, while some had individual stories. There are a total of 9 games in the franchise ranging from when pc gaming in itself was magic too the early 2000 years, with a 10th coming out in 2014 (early access came on steam earlier this year) The fan base is mostly split though with the game with one part loving the early games 1-5 which was tile based and set in the dos program. while the slightly younger generation preferred the later 6-8 games (no one liked 9). Though both contains some amazing pc games for its age. 5 (Swords of Xeen) and 7 (Blood and honor) are considered some of the best out of this series. I myself was born in 1991 so when i came around to pc gaming i played 7 and the others later in life. Might and magic 7 is hands down one of my favorite rpg's through the years. Though there are some significant changes in each game, they all had the same core mechanic. The game gave us or you created your own party of adventures and from 1-5 the game was turn based combat and 6-8 was real time but you had the choice to use turn based combat if you wanted to. All in all they were all extremely great rpg games. But after 3DO went bankrupt and Ubisoft got the rights they never did anything with the title uintil recently. The reason for this i think, is because the 9th game was extremely bad and did very bad in general at the sales. But then the awesome Legend of Grimrock was made, which was a throw back to these good old rpg style games which was a great enjoyment to many of the old school games (me included) and many others liked it to and got an interest in these types of games. I suspect this was what triggered ubisoft to make a new Might and magic game, with this one set after the events of Heroes 6. I have played the early access version of the game and closely followed the game at the official web page. And besides some minor things that annoy me, so far this game looks very promising. So i would ask you if you are a rpg lover like me to pick it up at steam and support the game, but at the same time give back constructive feedback to improve the game before launch. I really want this game to be a success so it doesn't become a new 9th, so we have to wait another decade for a new title in this franchise. Though i should warn you that the game is tile based and turn based combat, just in case you aren't into that. Or you could try picking up some of the good old games at GOG.com and support their good work and at the same get a taste of the M&M games So, to the other old school gamers here's some questions Which M&M game was your favorite? Why was it you favorite? Best memory from that game? Thanks once again for reading my Thread

  9. So! What is everyones favorite shooter of all time, how, when and why? I'm in a dilemma between TimeSplitters: Future Perfect and Soldier Of Fortune: Platinum. TS:FP Because of the great variety in story, missions, weapons and characters. And it has a map editor and it's only a PS2 title. Soldier Of Fortune because it has Epic gameplay, Epic game mechanics, Awesome weapons and interesting story. What are your favorites?
