  5. Steam is a mess, we all know that. The big problem is, of course, that the storefront is flooded with digital diarrhoea covering all the legitimately good and worthwhile indie developer's work and thus they simply can't get noticed and recognised. It's gotten to the point where indie dev's are preferring Nintendo to Steam. Last year more than 4000 games released on Steam, almost half of it's entire library at the time. This year, with December still to go, there has already been more than 6000. Some people will twist the meaning of these figures to say "look at all the choice Steam offers" or "That's because of how much Steam and PC gaming has grown", but we know the truth. It would be very easy and correct to blame the legions of dickhead developers and asset flippers for using Steam as the dumping ground for all their rancid piles of shit. However, as some will well know, I don't blame the ones who are taking advantage of this opportunity to deploy their get rich quick schemes, I blame the ones that are clearly quite happy to open the door to these bastards in the first place, Valve. This company makes money faster than paper can even be printed, and are yet unyielding in there insistence that the one thing that would immediately negate these problems can't be done. That being employing actual eyeballs with actual optic nerves to attach them to actual brains certified as actually sane inside actual head's that are parts of actual human beings to do actual quality control. Instead, they depend on a $100 entrance fee (what a deterrent that is) and nice, cheap algorithms that don't work. And that's being kind, I actually believe that Valve lets this happen because of the money they make as result of all this, but that's speculation and I want to stick to actual facts. There are people who will defend Valve buy saying "To many games get released on Steam every day to check each one" or "Hiring the sheer number of quality control staff to do this work would cost to much money". Well, I am going to test those theories. First, lets get some base numbers. To say again, 6000+ games released this year minus December. So, that's 6000 games over 334 days (that's the 365 day year minus December) meaning per day the average number of games released on Steam this year has been... (Apologies for the size of the images. I'm on my tablet and can only use screenshots from my calculator app and the always annoying imgur as file host. Don’t worry, I'm not going to use these screenshots to prove every sum, just the important ones.) ...so, close enough to say 18 games a day. Really? 18? They can't eyeball 18 games a day on average? And that's the highest its ever been. Obviously there will be days with more that, but there will be days with less to. There's also employee holidays, weekends and sick days to consider, but if Valve were to implement this there would almost certainly be a stated QC period between when a game is presented to them and being approved for sale (maybe 48hrs, for example) to help accommodate such delays and time zone discrepancies. So, 18 a day is a fair average to me to deal with these games quickly. I'm gonna assume for this a game is approved or not approved within 24hrs. On to the next issue. Cost. I am not gonna just look at how much an individual gets paid for doing this kind of work and build my calculations on that for three reasons; 1. I don't know what people in that profession get paid. 2. Even if l did know, I'm not gonna expose another persons salary without permission. 3. That wouldn't be an accurate estimate to how much an employee costs an employer anyway. There's more to it than just wages. So I'm going to approach this a different way. What I'm going to do is imagine a certain amount of people doing this job, analyse the workload so that we know that it's within reasonable parameters for both sides and consider this against the money taken in for that $100 fee per game because that's where that money should go in my opinion. So I am taking 0% of the money made from sales of games, DLC, movies, soundtracks, trading cards and everything else. Just that $100 fee. First, I want to take that 18 game a day average and apply it to December so we can get an annual figure for games released as an estimate; So adding that to 6000 makes a total of 6558 but I'm gonna round that up to 6700 given that at the time of posting we're still in November plus I think December will be a "busy" month given Christmas and all. Since Valve are to stingy to even employ one person to do quality control, so I'm gonna keep the number of people in this hypothetical scenario down to literally a handful, 5. Not 500, not 50, 5. So these 5 people doing 40hrs per week is a total of 200 man hours per week, multiply by 52 weeks that's 10,400 man hours per year. Divide that by those 6700 games and; ... that's around 90 minutes each employee has to check each game. That may not sound like much, but when comes to games that are not of adequate quality, are non-functional or barley functional, more obvious violations of copyright, offensive or overly obscene material, asset flips and other such dross, one could figure most of these out much more quickly than that. As an average, that's plenty of time, and this is with just 5 people remember. Speaking of which let's figure out the budget per employee to maintain this scenario between these 5 testers (Valve already have the management in place to remove games and offending developers, so they have the management in place for this already, so managers don't count). If all they have is the money form those $100 fees, then the annual budget per tester in $US is; ... oh, fuck you Valve! FUCK YOU!!! How do I see this? Well, I think Valve know damn well that if the did do proper QC, it would lead to less games getting published on Steam making even this hypothetical QC more expensive per game in the long run. THAT is why they refuse to do it. They WANT this dross all over Steam. It all comes down to money. So despite everything I just said, I'm wrong. QC would cost more money, but that much more? I say no. Valve just doesn't value their pride, there storefront, their customers nor the indie' development community enough to make these changes, not against the bottom line. But I'm leaving that and well as my figures open to the jury. Please share your thoughts below

Sonic Mania Review – Written by Jose Vega Product provided for this review by SEGA. Special thanks to them. For more than 25 years, Sonic the Hedgehog has been one of SEGA’s flagship franchises. It had humble beginnings during the 90s console wars between the Genesis and SNES but after SEGA went 3rd party, the journey got a bit shaky. 2006 would be the year Sonic would enter a dark age with many of their titles getting mixed to negative receptions. Things would pick up in the following years, despite some flops, and last year SEGA announced that Sonic would return with 2 more titles. One of them, Sonic Mania has been hyped for some time. Does the hype pay off? Sonic Mania takes place after the events of Sonic 3 & Knuckles. The plot centers on Sonic & Tails returning to Angel Island, learning that a strange energy source was sighted there. Unfortunately, a legion of Eggman’s robots has got there first, getting their hands on the Phantom Ruby. However, it whisks Sonic, Tails, Knuckles (unexpectedly) and the Egg Robots to a familiar locale. Seeing the danger & the evolved Hard-Boiled Heavies off with the jewel, Sonic along with Tails and Knuckles must team up to prevent the Phantom Ruby from falling into Eggman’s hands. It’s simple Sonic storytelling. Eggman enacts another of his world domination plans and it’s up to Sonic and his friends to stop them. Surprisingly he’s not the only threat they have to deal with. Eggman’s personal squad, the Hard-Boiled Heavies are also involved. This makes things a bit intense but what do you expect in a Sonic game. I have no complaints with it honestly. Sonic Mania brings Sonic back to its 2D side scrolling roots and it’s one that works, taking inspiration from the 16-bit Sonic games that made Sonic what he is today. If you’ve played many of the old school Sonic games, you will feel right at home here. You have three playable characters: Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. All of them play the same but with a few differences. They can jump, run, spin dash, etc. You get the idea. Sonic has a peel out move that lets him be on the move quickly. Tails can fly to avoid enemies and find hidden secrets and Knuckles can glide, climb walls, has a jump that isn’t as high & can access areas that Sonic and Tails can’t go through normally. You will need their strengths to conquer the game’s 12 zones. As far as length, you can beat the game in just a couple of hours and with three playable characters, it adds a lot in terms of replay value. There’s also Time Attack where you can race to get the fastest time and Competition where you and a friend can go head to head offline to see who can reach the end of a stage first. It’s great. There are 12 zones in this game, each with two acts. More than half of the zones are classic levels from previous Sonic games but they’re given a revamp when it comes to level design. The rest are brand new to the game and offer so much to the experience. What’s interesting is that each level offers many paths for the player to come from. It’s still simple enough going from start to finish but how you go about it depends on the player. Sometimes there are secrets you can find such as item boxes or giant rings. Like the classic games, there are bonus stages and by hitting checkpoints or finding giant rings, you get access to them. Checkpoint bonus stages are of the Blue Spheres from Sonic 3 & Knuckles and completing them net you medallions and they’re used to unlock various secrets. The Giant Ring bonus stages have you chasing after a UFO that carries a Chaos Emerald. Your skills will be tested, as you must collect blue spheres to increase your speed and rings to extend your time. Beating them will be a challenge but worth it in order to get the Chaos Emerald. There are 7 of these and they get harder as you progress. At the end of each act, there is a boss. Many pay nods to previous Sonic bosses. If anything SEGA really puts a lot of heart when it comes to the game and it shows. It also helps that Sonic Mania has a truly stellar presentation. The graphics are just what you expect for a retro 16-bit game and they did a job keeping it faithful to them. All of the levels offer something different and they are vibrant, full of colors and if you look hard enough, there are many nods and references to various SEGA related stuff. Sprites are detailed and authentic as well. They’re also expressive. Controls are very precise. Perfect would be too appropriate of a word to describe how good the game plays. I mean it. It’s perfect and easy to pick up and play. Whitehead Productions should be praised for giving us a Sonic game that feels like the old school games but in a new environment. I only hope SEGA can get him involved in a possible Mania sequel. Although I want to praise the game for its presentation, what really nailed it in for me was the music. Tee Lopes went in and delivered a soundtrack that is godly. I kid you not. All of the music in the game is amazing to listen to. Whether it’s remixed versions of Green Hill & Flying Battery or songs from the new stages like Studiopolis and Mirage Saloon, this game has it all. A game that has a stellar presentation, topped with a superb soundtrack. What more needs to be said? I do have one minor issue with the game and it can be quite a challenge. The game feels like the old school Sonic games and new players who may experience this can find it to be one that requires them to get good. The difficulty is a bit balanced but there will be some moments of unfairness. It shouldn’t dissuade anyone though. Sonic Mania has a lot of content and high replay value that anyone can be able to enjoy no matter what. But yes, it is challenging but there’s a good amount of reward for those looking to complete everything. It’s surprising how fans of the Sonic franchise were given the go ahead by SEGA to produce a game that’s not only fun but serves as a love letter to the Sonic franchise, it’s fans and SEGA as a whole. Sonic Mania is a special kind of game. Being at around $20 is enough to convince anyone that it’s worth a definite buy. Everything about the game whether it be its presentation, controls, music, etc. delivers on all fronts. Sure it can be a challenge for those that have little idea but it shouldn’t dissuade anyone otherwise. If you haven’t played a Sonic game or if you feel you want something that reminds you of the good old days, Sonic Mania is THE game. The blue blur isn’t going anywhere and this game proves that he’ll be around speeding through for many years to come. I give Sonic Mania a 9 out of 10. I want to make it a perfect 10 but I feel this rating is more than enough.

  10. EDIT: I'll leave the image as a link as I can't get it to embed properly, maybe the file is to large or somehting. http://imgur.com/a/WJTT9 Seriously, do I even have to explain why this is irritating? 4K gaming has been a thing for a while now on PC, and Steam still haven't fixed this. For what is supposed to be the best and most important service a PC gamer and has to use, this is pathetic. As you may be able to see, I'm playing Tales of Berseria on PC and I'm really quite liking it so far, but I've hit my limit of what I can take on this issue and it's like this on every PC game I own through Steam. I could fix this by running windows at a lower resolution, but the point is I shouldn't have to as it fucks things up for my current display. The thing that triggered me when playing game is Bandai Namco very cleverly runs the game in a border-less window instead of fullscreen, so I can run the game at native 4K with near enough max settings at 60fps without putting undue stress on my GPU. I seriously can't tell the difference between the window and full-screen, the FOV and screen edges look exactly the same either way, so well done dev's that's a nice touch. However, because it's running a window, to get the Steam overlay to be readable, I'd have to peg this game back as well, and I refuse to do so. The other reason I waited 'till now to vent on this problem is that in truth, it doesn't really hurt me as I've been mostly on single player games with this PC anyway, but there will come a time when I will need this overlay for something and it's basally unusable like this. Has anybody else seen such issues with other overlays? And what overlays out there are actually optimised for 4K?

How RimWorld’s Code Defines Strict Gender Roles An interesting look at the game's code and how societal and personal bias can potentially lead to effecting the content of procedurally generated games, either intentionally or unintentionally, made more interesting by the developer's angry reaction in the comment section. The rational part of it being explaining that a part of the system is the way it is due to being in an early state and a problem that was fixed with a recent patch. The rest involves talking about how he came to conclusions based on gay and bisexual people he knows or knew (which would imply that other parts of the code have nothing to do with bugs or an earlier build and saying that fits perfectly with the point of the article), complaining about journalism, saying that they didn't ask him questions then saying they did but he didn't agree to the way they do interviews, not wanting to be interviewed unless he had full editorial control over it (no site or news organization will ever do or agree to this unless they are incompetent or desperate), and calling the article a hit piece (none of the many journalists or developers I saw sharing this did so acting like it was an attack on the dev or saying not to buy the game, at least not until they saw his response which then lead to them looking at past things he's said and done). I didn't see the developer in a negative light from reading the article, as the article is just a natural thing to be expected of almost anyone developing a game like this. Even the developer seems to be saying he overreacted when I last looked. Dear everyone, After seeing that Steam is accepting refunds for people that played No Man's Sky for over 80 hours for how bad it is, and after seeing AJ's review, I like to believe he was really capable to shake the big companies' foundations to actually give the players a chance to get their money back. First of all, yes I have read the code of conduct and don't expect that Angry Joe intervenes here in any way. This is more like a cry for help because I'm sure someone in these forums has gone through some similar situation and maybe could help me in any kind of way, be it get me the right arguments to get the said refund or help me play the game with some exceptional downgrade for all it's worth. For those who don't want to read too much, let me summarize it for you GEFORCE 740M Intel Core i7-3630QM 16 GB RAM I love the Dark Souls franchise and DS3 would be enjoyable From Software announced the PC requirements and I came aboard the hype train because my GPU qualified http://www.pcgamer.com/dark-souls-3-system-requirements-revealed/ Without realising, From Software revises the minimum PC requirements, requiring a GPU just a little above mine https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/4bxbwk/fromsoftware_has_revised_the_pc_requirements_for/ I'm sure that any person that plays this game knows that the game's graphic are nowhere near to be good enough to take that much of a GPU. The graphics are straight up unpolished. I bought the game. Steam after all these years still has no hardware check an didn't prompt me a question after me bying the game (I'm not saying it's their fault for my mistake, I'm just saying they could do better) The game had random fps drops no matter the resolution, graphics settings, and driver versions (I've tested. A lot, visited their forums, steam forums, etc etc etc) After 43 hours managing to beat a few bosses, idling to search for solutions on the FPS drops removing me from online play, and other frustrating tasks I decided the game was not enjoyable for me Requests a refund, denied because exceeded 2 hours gameplay Appealed, explained all the facts still denied APPEALED, ASKED TO REFUND ONLY SEASON PASS WITH 0 HOURS GAMEPLAY, DENIED! I have never spent so much money on a game and this taught me to never spent so much ever again. I am aware I should have read the refund policies before buying the game. But I thought Steam would make an exception on my case since I simply can't enjoy the game and doubt I'll ever finish it with this current PC. After all this time, the game patches stil hasn't looked toward these graphics issues, basically saying fuck you to every person with an average PC or below. For those who want the full story, please check the links below with steam support screenshots: http://imgur.com/WhiBzQv http://imgur.com/HEEJAl5 On a side note, I've contacted bandainamco support and they didn't even bother reply to me. Thank you for reading. At this point I'm giving up, why would Steam bother argue with a big company when they simply could deny the little guy?

The Long Dark Is Boring And That's Why It's Great NDCS Workshop 2016 Publisher Defends Negative IGN Review Of Their Game, Shoots Down 'Supposed Conspiracy' I hadn't heard of anyone complaining about his review, apparently people complaining about review scores have reached the point where they are such cliched embarrassments that even I don't always hear about them anymore or them being made fun of over Uncharted 4 score complaints just overshadowed it. It is nice to see a company defend people harassed over review scores (hell, sometimes that would involve defending people who gave their game's terrible scores like 8s and low 9s), but this is also a good point as feeling the need to respond to completely asinine claims can set a bad precedent. Remove the Washington Post review from Uncharted 4's metascore In other news, regarding people not understanding the concept of reviews, grammar, human thought process, and reading comprehension, a petition was started to remove the negative review from Uncharted 4's metacritic listing. A lot of people are lying and saying the review is satire (even though the review contains no satire or jokes) because it is listed as a "Comic Riff", as always taking the five seconds to actually look at the site would reveal that Comic Riff is what a lot of their video game, comic, animation, super hero, etc content is labeled as and it has nothing to do with an article being a joke or not (but the corporate shills are mad about criticism and they certainly aren't doing to look into anything when they can be angry toxic fanboys instead). People are also saying that because the review didn't have a score that Metacritic just assigned one randomly, knowing anything about how that works or looking into that would show those people that the author tells Metacritic what score they want to give even if a score is not used by their own publication. Kotaku has just written an article about this here. Troy Baker retweeted the petition before realizing that doing so looks pathetic, and kind of half apologized for it. 23. THE AJSA COH2 COMMUNITY I've noticed that the Angry Army lacks a proper sub-section in Teamspeak for the game Company of Heroes 2, one that I play frequently. It'd be great if we were to unite all of the COH2 (or just COH in general) AJSA players, by offering them a place to hang out in the Teamspeak server. So, what do you brave soldiers think? Should we opt for a section of our own in the Teamspeak? Or is it too crowded with other games already? More than occasionally, I log into Teamspeak, only to find others playing other games. Perhaps, if we added COH under the Community Games tab, we'd encourage those feeling left out to hop in for some old fashioned, WWII warfare. I say, lets unite the AJSA COH community! Lets have a war room (chat room) of our own in our glorious Teamspeak! Until then, approved or denied, you'll find me at the front-lines.
