Demonbane775 posted a topic in General DiscussionSo recently I got my hands on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. I've been far gone in that game, haven't been this immersed in a game since I first got Skyrim a couple years ago. I ate, drank, breathed, and slept Metal Gear Solid for three days straight. And I had a blast the whole time. Kidnapping people with Fultons, stealing everything that wasn't nailed down, sniping people from long range, interrogating, being stealthy, being not stealthy, trying, failing, trying again and succeeding. It was one of the best experiences I've had with a game since... a long fucking time. Was. That's the key word. I don't know where things started to go downhill, probably around the time I decided to try and install a simple mod to make the DIamond Dog you're playing as appear in cutscenes as opposed to Snake, because I'd found a female Combat staff member who bore a striking resemblance to Jill Valentine. I discovered that to install mods you actually have to fiddle around with direct input commands in your computer's Command prompts. Simple programming stuff, but still far beyond me. That was when I started to get a little annoyed with the game. If I can't mod a game I tend to get tired of it pretty quick. And this was really starting to come into effect, because I hadn't gotten to Africa yet and was still puttering around Afghanistan, and was getting REAL tired of seeing the same three outposts over and over. The Afghanistan map is actually pretty damn huge, but the missions all take place in the same third of the map (With the exception of the last few) so there was a LOT of deja vu kicking in. Thankfully I pushed through that and got to Africa, which I was having a lot of fun with until the difficulty spiked. Hard. Suddenly if I'm not playing seriously at all times I'll instadie to the AI's pinpoint accuracy. Ever been hit by a single shotgun pellet that apparently carries the force of a full-on point-blank shotgun blast from over 70 meters away after missing a single shot with a silenced sniper rifle then been bombarded by a pin-point accurate mortar strike from over 150 meters away? I have. And that was just a side mission. And mind you, unlike Afghanistan, Africa's a lot of flat, cover-less territory. SHOULD be a sniper's paradise, except for the fact that the AI will lock onto you from ridiculous distances and fire endlessly with pinpoint accuracy if you fuck up even once. I was managing, but the game was getting progressively less fun and becoming more and more of a slog. Even sending combat teams to cut off the enemy's supply of OP as fuck shotguns and helmets that allow them to survive headshots and then instantly turn around and blast me from 100 meters away with said OP as fuck shotguns turns out to be pointless as the enemies continue to have them. But this still wasn't enough to stymie me. I'm a Dark Souls player, and I bit the bullet and went in full force. The game spiked it's difficulty and I pushed myself to the limits and started getting my first S-ranks on missions. That is, until Mission 22. Mission 22. The mission that ham-fistedly forces the FOB base system down your throat. This, I think was the straw that broke the camel's back. I turned off MGSV and I haven't played it since for over 3 hours. The longest period of time I've spend not playing MGSV that didn't involve eating or sleeping for over three days. All this stuff piled together is making me start to hate the damn game. WIth the general design flaws, AI issues, microtransactions, forced and idiotic multiplayer, and balance issues this game has I don't understand how it got game of the year awards. Yes, Kojima is a great game designer, but if you step back and look at this game without the Kojima/Konami bullshit skewing your perception it's actually got a lot of deep flaws. It's easy to blame all the bad things in the game on Konami, because, well, they're fucking Konami, but that doesn't get rid of said bad things. I don't want to say bad things about this game, note. I want to love it. I really do. But once I hit about 30% completion, it's become a slog and a chore at best and an absolute rage-inducing headache at worst. Anyone else have thoughts on the game? Am I alone in these criticisms?

Ground Zeroes was just the warm up. The Phantom Pain is the main course. EDIT: An article in regards to MGSV confirms that the release date for the game is September 1st and it'll also be THE LAST Metal Gear game he'll work on. http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2015/03/03/hideo-kojima-confirms-metal-gear-solid-v-the-phantom-pain-release-for-september.aspx
So i decided to edit together some of the MGS5 trailers into my own fan trailer. I'm a beginner when it comes to video editing but i think its still pretty fun to make stuff like this. Tell me what you guys think! Link:
