How RimWorld’s Code Defines Strict Gender Roles An interesting look at the game's code and how societal and personal bias can potentially lead to effecting the content of procedurally generated games, either intentionally or unintentionally, made more interesting by the developer's angry reaction in the comment section. The rational part of it being explaining that a part of the system is the way it is due to being in an early state and a problem that was fixed with a recent patch. The rest involves talking about how he came to conclusions based on gay and bisexual people he knows or knew (which would imply that other parts of the code have nothing to do with bugs or an earlier build and saying that fits perfectly with the point of the article), complaining about journalism, saying that they didn't ask him questions then saying they did but he didn't agree to the way they do interviews, not wanting to be interviewed unless he had full editorial control over it (no site or news organization will ever do or agree to this unless they are incompetent or desperate), and calling the article a hit piece (none of the many journalists or developers I saw sharing this did so acting like it was an attack on the dev or saying not to buy the game, at least not until they saw his response which then lead to them looking at past things he's said and done). I didn't see the developer in a negative light from reading the article, as the article is just a natural thing to be expected of almost anyone developing a game like this. Even the developer seems to be saying he overreacted when I last looked. 6. You know when there is that popular game or game series you hear about a lot, about how great the reviews are and the constant love people in the comment sections any time it is mentioned? And yet, you have not had a chance to try it out yourself due time or lack interest? Why do I ask this? Well, I just started a new playthrough of Deus Ex Human Revolution on the PS3 days ago. I actually had a copy of the game for years and forgot to even try it out until then. This was mainly due to the fact that I was currently binge playing the hell out of Black Ops and didn't really try to make any time to give Human Revolution a playthrough. It wasn't really until the announcement of its sequel, Mankind Divided, that I actually got around to wanting to play it. The current 10-hours I've had so far in the game have been stellar and now I find myself wanting to finish it and get to its sequel after. It actually made me wish I didn't skip out on it for so long. Same happened with Dark Souls, but that was a different situation entirely. It was the whole "Prepare To Die!" marketing that pushed me away from the series for so long. Now, I'm a patient person now (well, mostly patient), but back then I would get frustrated very quick and did not want to risk breaking my Xbox because I got killed for the 50th time by the same skeleton. Then a little new IP was revealed from the same guys who made the Souls games, Bloodborne. I would be damned if I was gonna let the developers reputation stop me from trying this beauty. To this day, I have probably put about 80+ hours into Bloodborne, and that was mostly without the Old Hunters dlc. Now, I currently have put almost 30-hours into Dark Souls III and about 20-hours into Dark Souls II (which is the cheapest game in the series btw). I'm currently looking for a good copy of Demon's Souls and Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Edition, both of which are really hard to find nowadays unfortunately. Anyone else have the same experience? Any popular games you only just played years after its original release? Hope you guys enjoyed the read. Now then, I've got some augmented terrorists to deal with. Later

  9. Source : http://gnn.gamer.com.tw/2/130902.html It's written on Taiwanese but I just points out some interesting part. Dark Souls Director Hidetaka Miyazaki said that Dark Souls Series is over and already begun a new IP. Although he said that Dark Souls is over, DLCs is currently planned to be released in Fall 2016 and Early 2017. Personal Thoughts: Dark Souls is a great game series and now it's time to take a rest. It's good to see that developer whilling to stop developing a new sequel after sequel in short time that will hurt their own IP. Unlike some yearly released games series *Cough* AssCreed and CoD *Cough* that now only care about Quantity over Quality to milking our wallet. While I actually want From Software to back to it's Armored Core series but we will see this New IP turns out to be good.

Danny O'Dwyer of Gamespot, Matt Lees of Cool Ghosts, and Kahlief Adams and Shareef Jackson of the Spawn On Me podcast talk about the future of and what is missing from video game coverage and the kind of audience that you generate. A look at creating the content that isn't out there and not just copying what everyone else is doing. Creating content focused on niches and on the "heart of gaming". Matt Lees talks about companies that want to pay for coverage, and how not wanting to take money can prevent you from getting previews and review copies and why he went to Patreon. Shareef Jackson on how people can be discouraged from perusing a career in a field that doesn't appear to have diversity or to represent different people. All of them talk about what it's like to have years worth of content available that may not represent the work they do now, how they have grown as people over the years, and how popular youtubers who focus on negative things have to live a life surrounded by constant negativity because of the community and content they have created. 20 years later, David Brevik shares the story of making Diablo His original pitch can be read here HACKING GAME BOYS AND SHARING WHISKEY ON THE GAME JAM JOURNEY ACROSS AMERICA Article about Train Jam, an annual game jam that occurs on the Amtrak train from Chicago to San Francisco. 12. Dark Souls 3 might be announced at E3 later this month. This rumor is according to an unnamed source speaking to VG247, who states that the announcement may come the evening of June 15th during Sony's E3 press conference. Nothing is confirmed yet, though the news would surely be welcomed by many. Source ---> http://uk.ign.com/articles/2015/06/02/dark-souls-3-could-be-announced-at-e3 EDIT: Thanks to Stick, here is a video from The Know (FunHaus) about some recent leaked screenshots! EDIT 2: Check out the trailer below, courtesy of argetlam350!
  13. This thread is really for discussing everything relating to Dark Souls II. As all fans of the Souls games should know, Dark Souls II is obviously the sequel to our favorite game that occasionally makes you want to throw something. Although the console versions of the game have already come out, the PC edition of the game came out on April 25th 2014. Now we wait for the DLCs to the game, if you're not one of those that are hating on them of course! The firs DSII dlc is coming out on July 22nd. We have three trailers below, all are rather entertaining to watch, even if you've already started playing the game! If you've already got the game, and would like to discuss it, the post-release discussions start part-way down page eleven. Just remember, if you're going to say something that is a potential spoiler, remember to use the spoiler tags! If you don't know how to use spoiler tags, click the spoiler button below to learn. The console versions of Dark Souls 2 have been released! (Please do not spoil the game for others.) The PC Version of Dark Souls 2 has released! CGI Trailer -- Aching Bones Trailer -- Cursed Trailer - Fun fact #1: Did you know that Dark Souls is the spiritual successor to Demon's Souls which is to King's Field? There's one sure-fire way to confirm this too! The Moonlight Greatsword is in every single one of those games. Really, it is! Fun fact #2: Did you know that Dark Souls II is NOT a prequel? I bet that half of you reading this think that it still is. Although it was originally speculated to be a prequel, the developers have since stated that the game's story happens after the events of Dark Souls. So it happens after. Its not a prequel. Fun fact #3: Did you know that beards are going to be in Dark Souls II? This may not be important to some of you, but as any true man knows, a beard is his best weapon, and most trusted companion. Also.... Anybody else hope that Patches is in Dark Souls II? I want to get kicked off of yet another cliff by him. Haha Here's a link to a cool and official Dark Souls II prequel comic on Facebook. They're releasing two pages every Wednesday. I suppose that they couldn't keep up with the original two pages everyday plan. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.547965298609852.1073741834.119869331419453&type=3
  14. Simply a topic to post your most Successful character builds. Even though it is -really- over-powered, I've got to say my Hexer is more then likely my most successful build, only followed by my fast str/dex build. Anywho, Hex Build: Int/faith/Atn: 50/50/30(30 atn gives you 6 slots, which for hexes, you need a LOT of slots.) Weapons/Spells - Dark Chaos Blade+5, Dark Crypt Blacksword+5 or Dark Grand Lance+10 (These are the weapons I have found to do the best with Resonant Weapon, even though you could put resonant weapon on a Dark Dagger+10 and more then likely do pretty well.) Resonant Weapon (Your chime doesn't really factor into this, so with Resonant Weapon it doesn't really matter what chime you use; Anywho, it increases dark dmg by 50% on your weapon and adds 50+ Dark dmg for one minute.) Dark Chime of Want+5 (highest dark modifier of any other chime.) or Dark Caitha's Chime+10 (Second highest dark Modifier of any chime.) Great Resonant Soul (Will one shot most players in NG, but is easily dodged.) Dark Sunset Staff+5 (Highest dark modifier I've found of any staff.) Dark Orb (Use it as a filler. You can hot swap to your chime and resonant soul to ninja a one shot.) Affinity (Only with 50 int; With 4 orbs or more(5 being max, at 60 int), the total dmg can end up being 1600 or so, although I only use it to trick people into rolling right into a Great Res Soul.) Whispers of Despair (Only use it on people wearing full Haval or Smelter demon. Lowers defense by 100 for 30 seconds) Lightning Dragon Chime+5 (Highest Lightning modifier, making a must for lightning spears.) Sunlight Spear (Max Sunbro Convanant Reward, takes 55 faith.) Rings - Abyss Seal (Obtained by joining the Pilgrims of Dark. A total must for Hexers, increases all Dark Spell Dmg but deals 30 dmg to you a cast, Easily offset by Respledent Life and any other ticking heals.) Southern Ritual Band (Adds more Atn slots, Normal adds 1 slot, 1+ adds 2, and 2+ adds 3. Very useful for Mages and Hexers Alike.) Second/Third Dragon Ring (Just because this ring is amazing on all accounts.) Cloranthy Ring (Any will do, although +2 is simply glorious.) Armor - It doesn't really matter what armor you wear, I just wear what I like. Although some would argue to wear the black robes or Lion Mage for the Casting speed, but it's a very minor change. From 100 casting speed, to 255(Clear Bluestone ring+2), There's a -very- small difference. I do however recommend wearing something light so you can roll away from the big hulking Str builds. Thief's Mask+10 (I simply love this mask since it matches damn near everything.) Llewellyn's Armor+5/Armor of Aurous(visable)+5 Llewellyn's Gloves+5/Gloves of Aurous(Visable)+5 King's Leggings+5 (Matches the rest and you get more defense.) Happy Hexing! Feel Free to post your own successful Builds!
  15. I've look around and could'nt find anything like this, sorry if I'm double posting. So Im talking about moments where you were in the midst of an epic fight and suddenly you get from out of nowhere chopped into small tiny meat pieces eaten by your enemy with Sweet & Sour sauce and some rice or noodles. No I am talking about the moment like then one I had. So was gonna go and fight my first, real, boss the Taurus Demon. I walked through the gate to the battleground, I killed off the 2 sneaky crossbowmen above me and went ahead forward. It was then the beast appeared infront of me, and so the battle commenced. I was prepared, prepared to die that is, what I was not prepared for was what happend. After something like 1 minutte of battle and I'd barely scratched his health bar he walk backward... and fell off the wall into his death. Yes, I defeated the Taurus Demon by having him accidently walk off the wall and die. And I felt robbed. This was not what I expected from the famous Dark Souls, not at all. I expected a long and hard battle where I would die over and over again before I finally overcame the odds and defeated him in a great battle. I am genuinely tempet to create a new and identical character just so that I can fight him again. I want my epic battle of death and in the end glory. So there you have it, I defeated a gruesome monster by doing nothing that mattered. Tell me your epic flawed victory that yourself have experianced.
  16. I did it! After sooo many deaths I finally did it! I am not very far in the game but the Capra Demon has definatly been the second most difficult so far, after the Gargoyles.
  17. Kadokawa (Linkage) has announced the purchase of 80% of From Software Corporation (Armored Core, Dark Souls, Tenchu series) estimated for about 1.7 billion yen, and their plans for its incorporation into the Kadokawa group as a subsidiary. The purchase will become official on May 21st. Source (if you can read it): http://gamebiz.jp/?p=129706
  18. I am trying to finish Dark Souls 1 before I buy Dark Souls 2. This is just a collection of clips which represents my progress in this game. I am actually much further ahead in the game since I made this video but I still think it is really funny and it helped me learn what kind of mistakes I was making.
  19. What is your favorit RPG of all time? My favorit RPG is Fallout New Vegas, Dark Souls and The Elder Scrolls: Chapter II Daggerfall.
  20. So now I'm playing Dark Souls again, and there's this 1 area in the game that just pisses me off so much. It's called the Great Hollow right before the Ash Lake. Basically it's an area with lots of tree branches, with tricky places for getting items. Problem is it's so freaking easy to slip off and get stuck in an area where you shouldn't be able to get stuck, the bottom most section is filled with giant mushroom men that can kill you in one hit if you're not careful. URGH, I died the most in this area compared to the other sections where I can just plough through them with maximum 5 deaths. In this area I died 15 times because everything is so slippery. And it's even more frustrating to die right after I gathered 25,673 souls, only to die again when I'm on my way to get the souls again! So what area in Dark Souls is your least favorite to go through?
  21. Whos excited? I know I am who beat both Demon Souls and Dark Souls.
  22. Hey guys, do you think it would be a good idea to have a dark souls group?
  23. Dark Souls. I'm a sunbro. I like helping people, I really do, but there are sometimes when enough is enough. I'm SL 100. I play Dark Souls just to co-op play now. I get summed in Anor Londo to help some moron in GH Robes and Estoc. I kill three invaders by myself. One with some Heavy armor and weapons that outmatched mine. I'm down to a shrivel of health. I beg the host to use a single estus, the asshole decides not to heal me and uses humanities instead. He goes in to fight O&S. I follow after him. I spend the majority of the fight fighting alone, while the idiot hides in the corner taunting me. Ornstein kills me, I die. Luckily, I watch as Smough beats the living hell out of my no-good summoner and kills him. Today was a good day.
  24. Got an interesting story that happened to you while playing Dark Souls? Feel free to post. Fanfic stories are welcome too :3
