Hi fellow Dishonored fans! I did a quick search in this forum and couldn't find any threads about Dishonored 2. I played the first game multiple times and I've also played all of the expansions at least once. I'm a little worried that Dishonored 2 won't be as steampunk as the previous one. I'm pretty confident, though, that Arkane Studios will deliver another smash hit, but still... you know... My wish for the sequel is for an upgrade to Blink which would allow you to blink through walls! That would be awesome! Are you guys as excited as I am for D2? Did you like the first Dishonored and/or the expansions? What would you like to see? What new/upgraded powers would you like? Please add your thoughts! /Cheers!
Kaz32 posted a topic in Written Reviews & PreviewsNext in my review is the game that I played again after completing it the first time and,.. I have quite a lot to say about it after my second non-lethal playthrough. I apologize if it's quite late to review this game. So the plot of the game is you play as Corvo, a bodyguard for an empress of the city that's like a mixture of old London + Half Life 2 named Dunwall. In the opening of the game, she was assassinated and her daughter Emily is kidnapped, and unfortunately you are framed for her murder. Luckily, you soon escape from captivity and granted new powers by a being named the Outsider. And from then on you and a group of rebels fight to overthrow the corrupt government that rules the city after the empress' death. To be honest, the characters are mostly bland and are not that interesting because they're typical stereotypes of much better characters they're based on. The only interesting characters in the game are Emily, the empress' daughter, and Slackjaw, the local gang leader that looks like Bill the Butcher from Gangs of New York. The story itself is really predictable. You can guess how the game will turn out 1/4 into the game. But this game isn't about the story and characters, it's mostly about the gameplay. The gameplay of this game is like Deus Ex Human Revolution + Bioshock in that you are free to approach missions in a lethal or non-lethal manner, and you can use neat powers to progress through the game. You get powers like blink which lets you teleport into somewhere very quickly, possession which lets you posses enemies for a limited time, rat swarm which lets you summon a bunch of rats that can kill enemies in a horrible way, wind blast which lets you do a force push, dark vision which lets you see people's line of sight, and bend time which lets you slow down time. You can do cool things with the powers like possessing a rat to escape from enemies ganging up on you, or just use slow motion to kill 5-6 enemies ganging up on you in an instant. How you approach the game depends entirely on you. You can either go and kill everyone you see, or you can be merciful and just knock them out cold and only kill if you have to. For the majority of the game, you have to do assassination missions to kill different targets. You can chose a non-lethal way to take them out by doing things like framing them for a crime, getting your targets arrested for the past deeds they had done etc, which is actually more satisfying considering how bad those people are. The ending and the area of the game will change depending on your playstyle. If you go around killing people, the surrounding areas will be filled with more enemies like the infected that you have to go through, while if you avoid killing people, you will only have to deal with the normal enemies instead of infected people. If you do go around killing people and your surrounding areas are filled with infected, you can reduce the chaos by doing side quests for various people. Just make sure if you want to get the good ending, you don't kill too much. As I have said before, the first time I played this game, I mix things up. I mostly go around choking people and using sleeping darts to knock people unconscious, not killing them if it's not needed, and fight if I had no choice. I had a lot of fun fighting because of the various maneuvers you can do. The combat in this game is solid and you'll definitely want to just purposely get 10 people to gang up on you so you can kill them one by one. It's so satisfying taking them down. By the end I still got the good ending because I don't kill that many, and it's a lot of fun. However, after that I think to myself "hm, maybe I should do a non-lethal run to get the pacifist achievement." So I played the game non lethally this time without killing anyone, and oooohhhhh boy, the game's quality suddenly drops down by a lot. Everything is so limited. Your only method of knocking people out cold are just choking them for 5 seconds, or use a sleeping dart. You can just get past the guards to avoid detection, but it's not fun whatsoever! Why can't the game have a takedown system like in Deus Ex Human Revolution or Hitman Absolution where you can just beat the crap out of enemies by punching them? Why are your method of knocking out enemies just choking and sleeping darts?? The only powers that's useful in a non-lethal playthrough are only blink, possesion and dark vision, and you'll get pretty bored of them very quickly. You will constantly screwed up and get detected by enemies, leaving you no choice but to take them out head on with sleeping darts if you have ammo, or just run away by possessing into a rat, which is not fun whatsoever. Better save a lot because if you screw up and accidentally kill enemies while you are doing a non-pacifist run, which will happen so many times, you can just load back before to the point where you haven't kill enemies. Rinse and repeat till the end. Overall, this game is quite fun if you mix up your combat approach or you just want to kill everyone in sight. If you play non-lethally the whole way through, you will hate this game. I'll give this game the rating of "so good you can't wait for the sequel (if there is any)" if you mix things up, and "finished it, don't want to touch it anymore" if you just play non-lethally. I suggest if you want to go for a pacifist run, don't. Tell that pacifist run achievement to go eat shit, because it's not worth it.
