There Are No Politics In Hideo Kojima Games Meanwhile while they pretend to understand Metal Gear, Kojima said this in the above interview that was posted only a day before. Superman Returns: What went wrong Why the future of Deus Ex lies with its past Remembering From Software's Forgotten Mech Classic, 'Chromehounds' In Praise of Video Gaming’s Old Dalliance with Distance Fog Watching Someone Else Play Resident Evil 7 On YouTube: The Kotaku Review Related to this article Perpetually offended "journalist" trying to find things to be mad about This started off as amusing to me since it's a guy who does nothing but write hit pieces complaining about articles or people posting things that he clearly didn't read, didn't or pretends not to understand, or in a recent case was two years old. It ended up getting funnier as people told him the article was clearly about the watching of Let's Plays with some joke content thrown in, causing him to call their arguments autistic and then leading him to lie about the LPer not having his content linked in Kotaku's article (checking the article above will see the Youtuber mentioned by name multiple times, his profile linked with his name, and his video linked, giving him views and putting readers one click away from being on the upload on his page). Seeing that he has so many followers, a dedicated site to hosting his whining, was a former editor of Gameranx, and has so many people positively sharing this blatant lie as if it were true, it does serve as a good reminder to actually look into random criticism and memes against gaming websites and personalities. Even more so when there are so many websites and Youtubers trying to make a living off of manufacturing outrage or producing angry reaction videos/articles. One obvious example frequently linked for years is an image complaining about IGN reviews with brief sections taken from the final score with no context, with the attempt being to make it look like the writers is complaining about things like a Pokemon game having water in it when that actually refers to content and balance issues in the game. Moral is it's good to actually read things, better to attempt to understand them, and if you're one of the worst writers in an industry and have multiple journalists and developers in that industry referring to you as a constant source of embarrassment, you probably shouldn't attempt to complain about one of the best. Meanwhile the Let's Player and his fans, who Ian tried to make it look like he was angry for, had this response to Kotaku's article. Christopher makes some pretty good XCOM 2 let's plays that I've watched over the last year and is currently trying out the Long War 2 mod if you want to see how that plays. 6. I really want to know what everyone's reaction to this was. I was first confused then sad, because Oculus now has a very unclear future as no one really has a clear prediction as to where Facebook wants to take this. All I know for sure is that I's gonna take a HUGE price hike. Opinions people! I need them!
  7. Topic: I know this opinion will probably be unpopular, but I actually see this as good news. After initally having a negative knee jerk "oh god, why Facebook" reaction I started to think about the deal and believe this is great news for the Oculus Rift and for VR as a platform. 1st point: First off I think a lot of people are over reacting without researching what Facebook's interests in Oculus are. Facebook historically has let its acquisitions manege themselves without interference and there is no sign that this will be different. There are no signs pointing towards needing a Facebook login to use the Oculus, in fact Palmer(Oculus Founder-CEO) said that would never happen. There is nothing suggesting that Oculus will change their goals for their product in the long term (they always were planning on the Oculus to be a platform for more than games, like watching sports courtside, conference calls/being virtually in another localtion, other forms of entertainment) or short term (being 100 percent focused on gaming applications to establish the Oculus VR platorm). Unless Oculus has a single change in their plans and in their beliefs about what VR means, there have been 0 signs of change so far, we should't be on them for selling out when in reality they are trying to complete their vision (they same one we have known about for a while now.). Facebook has no reason to change the goals and vision of Oculus VR Facebook bought Oculus because they believe VR is the next big medium and they want to be invested in that medium when it takes off. Facebook does NOT want to use VR as a platform for social gaming (facebook games) because that would NOT benefit them. Instead Facebook is interested in Oculus as a platform such as TV or Smartphones. Facebook is investing because they believe this is a possible future for VR and therefore would NOT benefit from changing Oculus's current path. To quote from Mack Zuckerberg, "Immersive gaming will be the first, and Oculus already has big plans here that won't be changing and we hope to accelerate. The Rift is highly anticipated by the gaming community, and there's a lot of interest from developers in building for this platform. We're going to focus on helping Oculus build out their product and develop partnerships to support more games. Oculus will continue operating independently within Facebook to achieve this." 2nd Point: With the greatly increased funding we will see Oculus grow quicker and release sooner, with more money to develop rift-centric games and high quality Rift devices. Oculus, for all intents and purposes is still acting independently, but the difference now is that they have the cash to make some serious impact. AAA developers like Ubisoft will be absolutely more interested in putting games on Oculus now that they have the cash to push VR into the mainstream gaming market. Conclusion: In conclusion, while I do agree that we should watch Oculus carefully to make sure Oculus stays to there original vision and gamer roots I also believe the Facebook partnership will advance VR gaming and let the Oculus achieve its goals. With the current information we have this deal is a good thing for gamers and VR enthusiasts. Oculus will now have the financial muscle to create an environment for gamers where VR is a widely used and supported format. So to end this post with one last quote from Palmer : "This acquisition/partnership gives us more control of our destiny, not less! We don't have to compromise on anything, and can afford to make decisions that are right for the future of virtual reality, not our current revenue. Keep in mind that we already have great partners who invested heavily in Oculus and got us to where we are, so we have not had full control of our destiny for some time. Facebook believes in our long term vision, and they want us to continue executing on our own roadmap, not control what we do. I would never have done this deal if it meant changing our direction, and Facebook has a good track record of letting companies work independently post-acquisition."
  8. What do you guys think about this new virtual reality headset? Will it change gaming, or will it just be a huge gimmick? Will they craft games around this new technology just as they have movie scenes that are extra close up for the new 3d crap. Would you actually buy this headset?
