So i just beat Ori and The Blind Forest.. Well I must say that it was on hell of a experience from start to end. I'll structure this review in categorizes and give my scores fore each category and thoughts about it. While the start here is my brief summary of my feelings through the game. So yeah, Ori.. Well damn; you know that feeling you get when you beat a game and you have that warm feeling/ empty feeling? Well i have that right now. From the start to the finish Ori takes you through gloom/ beautiful landscapes that are beautifully illustrated and animated. Scenes that put you at the edge of your seat as you do fast paces platforming or methodical platforming as you scale each environment. The game has a Metrovania style to it and often you will find yourself going back to collect all the health and energy orbs with your new abilities. The game i felt kept a constant difficulty where i never felt it spiked dramatically or got easier as well as every time you die i always felt that it was my mistake and not the game being cheap. So yeah those are my thoughts and my experience with the game. Now to get to the nitty gritty stuff. Gameplay 9/10 The platforming mechanics are beautifully executed, you will gradually pick up more and more abilities allowing you to explore more areas as well as opening multiple ways to progress through obstacles. The game constantly challenges you with forward and backward exploration and some pretty precise platforming that you may have to do in twitch reflexes. The gameplay is rewarding and is defiantly one of the strongest weapons this game has. Art / Animation 10/10 Beautiful, just beautiful art and animation. Easily one the most beautiful games I've played in years. Music 8/10 I'm honestly not the biggest music buff but the music is very fitting and keeps your ears filled with very beautiful pieces. Story 8/10 The story is simple, and easy to follow as well as beautiful as it tells the story of life vanishing, being reborn, and motherly love. I'm not going to go more into this because it would lead to spoilers. =) Final score 9/10 Ori is Beautiful, Riveting, and sweet. The game does not outstay it's welcome and it'll keep you interested from the start to finish. I would highly recomend this game to anyone looking for a good platformer and one that is decently challenging at that.
