Okay, pretty late in the game since I thought nothing of Soul series in the past but I shall leave behind my thoughts.
I do agree with what Scary said, but the final verdict you have given is fair enough. Not particularly interested in the single-player modes anyways. Just create-a-soul and multiplayer.
It was only April of this year I, a 56-year-old woman, wanted to get into more fighting games than just Tekken and Super Smash Bros. series, and so I found Soul Calibur series and am starting to fall in love with it. It was the create-a-soul nuance since SC3 that really convinced me, and I find it to be a hell of a lot better than Smash 4 create-a-Mii, I tell you what.
I already have SC2 and SC3, and recently sent out for Soul Calibur 5 (as well as Soul Calibur 4 and Tekken 6 while I was at it) this past weekend. Despite the only-above-average rating you gave it, I am going to have so much fun this side of Smash Bros. series. Not to mention some of SC5’s DLC costume packs look good, so to me it is going to be worth laying down another $15 tops.

Just get IV It’s way better!
You really make it appear so easy along with your presentation however I in finding this topic to be actually one thing that I think I might never understand. It kind of feels too complex and extremely huge for me. I’m taking a look ahead on your subsequent submit, I¡¦ll attempt to get the hang of it!

this game sucks major balls soul calibur 4 is way better
Ok, where to begin… Your first point was valid about the “ass and titties being covered up”, BUT the next points were garbage, but I’m not talking s#!t, just saying you couldn’t be more wrong in the eyes of a true fan.
1, The roster is PATHETIC. They took out all kinds of characters, and don’t give me that BS about how the new characters are ok… no they are not, and there is no excuse for that because in Soul Calibur III they had 24 unique characters, and then add all the other mini characters who used there own unique fighting styles, counting the 18 additional characters. That’s 40 different fighting styles, and 2 weapon masters. And to spit in the face of those who liked the old characters, they replaced some of the best characters, with trendy unoriginal clones that don’t even play as well as the old characters. And about the Jedi/Sith GUEST characters… they are not worth a mention because they are just guest characters… DUH, the real gimmick was how all the characters look trendy and stupid compared to the old set up… and you totally looked past that, not to mention the fact that Ezio and Donny P. is the same type of gimmick.
2. the graphics, I also agree with that. THEY ARE AWESOME, But you don’t “break bits and pieces of armor off”, that only happened to original characters in SC IV, but every other person you make and every one in the fifth game completely looses there armor witch is very lazy when you look at the damaged character models in SC IV. And I agree that the arenas don’t stand out, but nobody gives a s#!t. It’s all about fighting mechanics witch I’ll get to later. But I will also agree that the non-cowardly people appreciate the majority of the maps having no ring outs. So that’s not your opinion. That’s a fact that it is a good think to have less ring outs.
3. LOL @ your ignorance about the fighting system, this is the worse thing to happen to Soul Calibur, EVER. They completely ruined the fighting system. SC 1,2 and 3 have the true fighting system. None of that trendy as F*$K super attacks, this is not street fighter, and the true fans played Tekken and Soul Calibur to get away from that trendy, super attacks, and energy meters, DUH. Thats what gave these namco games there charm. Honestly, what takes more skill? Using one attack to get them to half life, OR constructing a unique combo of singular attacks to bring them to half life. Any idiot with a brain stem would tell you the same, so the lack of combos is just one part. The addition of a trendy gauge and super attacks is the second part to nerf the combat system, but the thing that used to take skill was punished worst of all. The guard impact used to be epic, and it used to take skill to use, AND it used to be unlimited, making very very fast paced and complex combat possible. So if you think Soul Calibur IV was complex, you would never have the skill to play the three previous games. Not to mention the fact that the old games had more attacks for you to use making combos even more extensive. But I do agree that the brave edge attacks are awesome, but the soul edge attacks are for lame a$$ people who can’t do a combo. So that being understood, they didn’t punish defensive players. They punished all players, technical, defensive, and offensive. Rewarding button mashers, attack spammers, and nubs. So the fact is, Super attacks ruined the fighting system. And I hope those lame attacks are removed, along with the talent-less players who endorse that, go play street fighter if you like that BS. You are also wrong about side stepping. There is a way to side step, and a double side step, or “dash” making it more viable than ever. And about the “Just Guard” it’s so hard to do that s#!t that I’ll tell you as an expert guard impact user from SC III that it’s a slap to the fact of everyone who was good at guard impacting before they gimped it. All said and done, This is the WORSE fighting system in SC EVER.
4. The story is gawd awful. you give it more credit that its worth. The story used to be about whoever you choose to play, now its only about one dude… come on, nubs and fan boys will tolerate and endorse the most BS I’ve ever seen. And the difficulty spike at bosses is only apparent to players who suck… sorry, it’s true. If you think that is hard, try your luck at killing Night Terror on SC 3, or Abyss on hard difficulty. Witch brings me to the part about tutorial mode… If you were not a nub to SC, you would know that G means guard, K means kick, H means heroine, HAHA just kidding, it means horizontal attack, and V means vertical attack, empty arrow means tap the direction, and solid arrow means hold direction. small box means press super fast and multi box means press at the same time. DUH.
5. You made another good point on about the arcade and legendary mode but it’s not about the difficulty, its about the content.. or well, lack there of. and to address the point in the background about where is weapon master? There are three of them you dee dee dee, the angel, the old guy, and the guy in the mask all at the bottom of the screen are weapon masters. The real question is, what is wrong with Olcadan and why take him out?
6. Are you really that nubish? dude character creator is an old addition, from the third game, but in the third you had more to work with. In four, they added the ability to completely customize the main character. the only new feature in creation is the ability to change the skin on the armor, but that isn’t really good when you only have a fraction of the things that SC 3 & 4 offered. And when it comes to custom fighting styles, don’t be dumb… The only game that lets you do what you were talking about was Mortal kombat Armageddon. However like I said earlier Soul Calibur III had an alternate fighting style for every pre-existing sighting style, and a pre-made mini character for each one. for example there was a character that used a giant sword, but didn’t fight like Siegfried or Nightmare. he had a only a few attacks that were borrowed. And you’re wrong about quick battle, there are no random characters, every model was pre created and only a few are impressive in the eyes of an artist. However I do agree that it needs to stay, and FYI you can play this mode alone and unlock every piece of armor. Not to mention all of the hardest AI are in this mode, and there is even an achievement for beating all of the pre-created characters on quick battle.
7. I completely agree that multiplayer is improved, SC 4 was crappy. And replays I could give or take, I just like saving the really epic fights. Not to learn, but to watch later and enjoy.
8. I can’t believe you buy into all the capcom BS but end it all saying that namco should have stayed true to there style…. Dude, don’t be an idiot. Attack meters are Capcom gimmicks, super attacks are Capcom gimmick, finish attacks are Capcom gimmicks. The anime style character models are, you guessed it, Capcom gimmicks.
So you speaking on behalf of fans, with ignorant point of views, saying you would like it if you are a fan makes you look dumb, and you look even more dumb saying “if you compare this to the older games” because it is painfully obvious that you didn’t do that, because I just did, and we came to opposite opinions of the game. Any true SC fan would say the same, this is not a good game. In fact it is total crap. The only reason it sold was from the hype, and the fan boys and nubs who will buy into anything. This piece of crap gets a 3 out of 10 from a true fan, its only redeeming factors being the ability to change the texture of the armor you customize, the quick battle mode, and the fact that Nightmare didn’t look as stupid as the fourth game, but still he looked kinda stupid, scratch that this game get a 2.5 out of 10 from a true SC fan.
I’m not flaming you for liking the game, I’m just upset that your review was very uneducated. I like a lot of your other videos, it just ticked me off that you know next to nothing about the games that mattered. and acted like you knew what your talking about. Remake this video after beating at least Soul Calibur 2 and 3. then you will see the huge gimp that came along with 4 and 5. OR at the very least rename the video to something like “First timers look into the Soul Calibur.” or “this game is nothing like its predecessors, but give it a try”
I mostly agree but I only played IV and V and I hated V for the same reasons. I just got II for PS2 so I’m eager to try it (I was feeling like watching this video because of that.)
nice to see shou khan got a cameo
The link doesn’t work anymore.
Queen vs Obama… Queen obviously wins. XD
This review is funny
This review is funny all that ayuss and titties
Brilliant game but I fucking hate Pyrrah and her brother Patrokales. This suck hard out and really ruined the game.Oh yeah, and the guy that replaced Kilik, god he suck’s.In the words of the Comic Book Guy”Worst Soulcaliber game ever.”
I am ROYALLY pissed off at this game. Aside from all the things you mentioned (which I 100% agreed), I also like to add that they totally nerfed Raphael big time (I am a Raph user, I don’t know why but he appeals to me and has been my favorite since SC2). Many of his moves are missing or changed in really awkward ways. His GI is useless, many of his moves are now required preparation, and some even required successfully GI while in preparation. Gone were the day where he can auto dodges and sidesteps with impunity. His dodges are slower than last games, and they still give him crappy horizontal strikes, and even those are limited in number compared to previous games. I have come across many Raph players and a lot of them feel the same way. Just hoping that in the next installment, NAMCO will give a Raphael that fans deserved.
Despite some lack of effort put in to Soul Calibur 5, I cannot lie how much fun I had with this game. Even though I gave it a 7/10.
Yeah, I can agree to that. I wish they would make a better Custom Character Storyline. Something like in SC III
But I hope they improve Tutorial too…
Well, at least my fav character Nightmare stayes as bad*** as he is 😀
As a fan of Soulcalibur, i was first excited heavily for this game. Beautiful stages, crisp character looks & etc.
What i felt was great in this game was just the custom creation mode, but the DLC’s fell short in between some of actual good dlc items for cc mode.
Single player was uninteresting, even some of the new characters i could care less.
I wish the game developer team can take the campaign from SoulCalibur 2, the in-depth story from within it and add not only the intros and outros of Soulcalibur 4 but as well add that in-game battle system mixed all in together with the beautiful graphics of SCV.
Over all, i would score the game a 5/10 in that in respect of the expansion of the custom creation mode, i wish there could be more with a better in-detail story campaign that isn’t rushed.
All flash no substance. Older games of the series are better. Especially SC3 was fun to play, and it had tons of content SCV does not.
Honestly, I think you rated this game too high.

I spent most my time in Creation and Quick Battle so far… The Creation mode is excellent, and some of the DLCs with more armour and clothes and great, too.
But does anyone else have immense difficulties with the higher Quick Battle enemies? I beat all E, D, C and B – characters, and the A 5, 4 and 3, too. But the A1 and A2 guys are just bloody frustrating to fight… They combo all the time (which I am apparently too poor to prevent), you can rarely grab them since they evade and stuff, they block almost every attack (even from behind or when they are on the groud…) and it really feels like they are mighty imbalanced.
Apart from that: Great Game! But it is frustrating if you have no time or nerve to learn all those bloody combos… It feels like these are now the heart of the fights and that really annoys me.
Cheers!
I thought this game was really solid. SoulCalibur 2 was the best by far, but this is a great addition. The online play can get aggravating and difficult, especially if you are new to the series. Now it’s only like 15 bucks used, so you might as well pick it up.
The game is all right and the combat system is pretty good but some of the characters are a little unbalanced, as said before by Joe the giant sword holding guys Siegfried and Nightmares can hit you when down but Siegfried is notably slower than Nightmare who can completely waste you. Another character i recently unlocked was Algol who can shoot you from across the map with a ball firing hand and he also holds both soul calibur and soul edge which do crazy combos, Devil Jin is ok other than his lazers that shoot out of his eyes which can become a pain. Dampierre is fast and has an attack which can put you on the ground and keep you there while he throws punches out at you. There are a couple of other unbalanced characters but they pale in comparison.Other than that most characters have their flaws but I really think they need to make just guard more do-able because your timing needs to be flawless.
Oooh Joe, you really should have played Soul Calibur 3! That one was the best. I spent hours with my friends fighting through that conquest/story mode with RPG elements.
I say for the next Soul Calibur they should bring back all the character in the previous games.
well thats depressing, ive started to miss tower of lost souls *shudder*
The only reason I bought the game in the first place was simply to enjoy the creation system in the game, I’ve always been a fan of creating characters so when I found out about how good the charcter creation system was in the game I had to give a look and now I’m able to bring alot of my imagination to life with it. As for everything else, well the combat system is also something I enjoy and as for the single player, well I didn’t have any hope for it what’s so ever from the very beginning.
I love the combat system, kind of hate how defense is punished even more then in the fourth one. i really do hate the face u need the soul gauge needs to be aleast half full to even do a gaurd impact, but soild overall.
Now Characters look great, but who in the hell are the these new characters and how did Cervantes(i think that spelt like) be came mortal again? single player was extreamly dissapointing. no weapon master, sword cronicals, or even a challenge tower… i loved all these things in the past games why get rid of them?? also the lack of unlockable contet, not including clothes is disapointing.
the online play though is amazing!!! ranked battles, quick matches, global waiting rooms where u can chat pick ur challengers and even tournaments that they open every now and then. lag seemed to happend as u skip the little small cut sences of the characters before they fight.
overall give it a 6.9. not quite a full seven for me. it feel like a $40 dollar game then a full priced game.
me to but its a video game avatar(o:14)
Why the hell does a fighting game not have local multiplayer? Does Namco assume Soul Calibur fans don’t have any friends in their real life?
Uh , it does. I own SC5 on PS3 and it definitely has local multiplayer.
Ass tittes ass ass tittes ass tittes ass ass and tittes
dicks lol!
you shuld make a review of assasins creed
Indeed
looks pretty good.
Mortal Kombat is the ULTIMATE fighter!
i bought this game i really like it
i don’t there a super meter this too
this game is easy to mod
i have Tira fighting as Natsu and Ezio fighting as Algol
So is the “ecspecially” just his thing or…?
Is it just me or does the narrator at the beginning sound like Xemnas from KH2?
It’s not just you. The Narrator in Soul Calibur V has the same voice actor as Xemnas.
the customizations and multiplayer were pretty good in this game, if only they let you customize your own fighting style then it would have been epic
I’m not much of a fighting-game person but wouldn’t doing that ruin competitiveness? If you look at MVC3, they keep having to do patches on characters to ‘balance’ them because some were too ‘overpowerwed’ etc. By giving us freedom to create any style, wouldn’t that make balancing extremely hard for them?
To be fair i love the soul caliber series. the 5th game was pretty good, its not bad the only problem i had with the game is that there was no bio features or art galleries thats thing the i like, i had no problem with the story i thought it was pretty silly, good game play, improved character customization and better online other than that pretty good instalment to the series.
Soul Calibur 3’s weapon master or whatever it was called was amazing. Missed it so much in 4. I was really hoping they’d bring it back in this one.
I still think the best SoulCalibur is SoulCaliburIII.
I was beyond excited when I heard SCV announced. But to actually play it makes me want to burn the disc and send death threats to Project Soul. I mean honestly what the hell were they thinking?
First of all they pretty much ripped a lot of the armours and designs from the last instalment and did a half asses lazy attempt of doing anything meaningful with the game. I mean really the only thing that makes the game some what enjoyable is the inclusion of new characters, mainly Ezio. Pretty much my openion is that they could have charged $10 for them in DLC. I and I’m sure others would not be nearly as pissed about that.
What the hell did they do to put this game together? copy, paste, get lazy, and screw up what they just did?
Okay…this game piss me off… And i like the Soul Calibur franchise. But after the fourth one, i thought that the V will be more… well, like the third one actually.
But no, we just have here the most lazy Soul Calibur of them all…
Dunno why but Namco’s SC franchise always fell kinda flat to me, while their Tekken series has always been fun. 6 was the best since TTT, here’s hoping TTT2 kicks serious ass!
I’ve been a fan of this series for a while. I <3 to kick @$$ with swords…
i don’t know what he talk about much much much then mass effect 3
Honestly, I’m not liking the defensive changes they’ve made in this game. It feels like a step backwards. At least button-mashers will be happy.
Got a few things to say on this one.
First (And this really burns me!) If you want to know about every characters backstory (Except for Edgemaster, Kilik and Algol) you have to go to SoulCalibur.com and look up the Characters from SoulCalibur 5, that’s right, they gave most characters a backstory, they were just too cheap to PUT IT IN THE FREAKIN GAME!!!
Second, The Characters voices weren’t as wooden as they appeared, however without proper animations for the characters, their voices didn’t give the dramatic effect they should have… (Meaning, with Still images the Voicing came off as wooden in all the scene’s exept the ones that actually did have proper 3D Character animations)
Third, while I got that the Namco was trying to imply a strong sibling bond between Patrokolos and Pyrrha but they’re honestly going to regret it, Just about every pervert and messed up Freak out there who knows how to draw and upload will be spewing twisted images of those two like a horse with projectile diarrhea (As if Google Images wasn’t messed up enough without this you know what)
Fourth I found the selection in Character Creation Extremely lacking, most clothing, armor and accessories were just hand me downs from the fourth and third, there were only a few voices for each gender, and they screwed up what armor they did make, I mean really! most Pauldrons just floated in mid air as did the belts! and to top it all off some of the women’s torso armor exposed their breasts at certain angle’s, and I don’t mean a little exposed, I mean that from certain angle’s you saw everything, and given to the fact that I’m Not A Pervert I was insulted, I was trying to make a Female Warrior, not a Female Stripper! And before you ask, NO I AM NOT GAY!!!
Despite what you may think, the modern world hasn’t rendered decent morale guys extinct just yet!
Fifth, The story was way to short and failed to properly portray Patrokolos change from a brash young brat into a mature young adult, instead he just grew up instantly and started acting like Luke Skywalker (Which seems even weirder since he kind of looks like him…) towards the End of Return of the Jedi! FOR GODS SAKE PEOPLE DON’T JUST CHANGE ON THE SPOT!!!
Sixth, Sadly for those of us that want to see Characters like Talim,Amy,Taki,Seong-Mina ETC, it isn’t likely since they have this rule in japan that forbids Female Characters over age 27 from being in games (Notice that Namco never increased the age of the female characters as they advanced throughout the series and that the two females that returned have stopped aging ON ACCOUNT OF THE CURSED POWER OF SOULEDGE)
Seventh, To Angry Joe: It’s alot easier to defeat Nightmare with Z.W.E.I. if you rely more on timed throws, Kicks and Critical Edge’s (Trust me I haven’t lost once to him in campaign yet.) and as for the battle between Pyyrha Omega and Elysium; You should rely more on Alpha Petrokolos heavy throw (A Y,LEFT TRIGGER, L2) A Horizontal (JUST Y, not Hold Right-Y) once again Critical Edges and Kicks, don;t bother with Patrokolos Light Throw (A X, LEFT BUMPER,L1), In my personal experience this worked very well and took very little effort on my part (This is just my experience of course but I think It’ll work well for others as well) NOTE: The controls in this piece of advice are for the XBOX 360 incase Anybodies wondering.
Eighth, I was really mad that Algol’s combat style wasn’t able to be used by custom character’s (AGAIN)
Ninth, In soul Calibur 4 your armor, clothing and accessories broke piece by piece as it took damage, in Soul Calibur 5 any hit if powerful enough broke every piece of armor, clothing and accessories regardless of whether or not they were actually touched, which really sucked.
Tenth, In Soul Calibur 4 you actually had stats, skills and even a leveling system that allowed you to further customize your character and encouraged you to learn to use each character, and yet in Soul Calibur 5 they were too cheap to integrate that feature into the game.
Eleventh, ONCE AGAIN THEY FORGOT (PURPOSELY?) TO ADD AN ADVENTURE MODE LIKE IN THE SOUL CALIBUR 2 AND SOUL CALIBUR 3!!!
Still would rather play the DC ver. So far that is the only good SC game ever released..
Ive never really been a fan of SC. I Like MK and Blazblue better. They arnt button mas fests lol
