Watchdogs.. Bit of a cop out.

41 posts in this topic

I'm a little annoyed at what the developers have done for watchdogs release... I've only just came to light that the graphics are nowhere near as good as they were advertised at E3... Now bare with me as I'm one of these people who know that graphics (Final fantasy 7 and Diablo 2) do not make the game what it is... Gameplay does. However, due to the fact people have started paying out for next gen consoles and upgrading their Rigs (PC) for money. I think we should expect a little bit of what we expected.

Anyway to my original point. The E3 Demo looked absolutely flawless and what next gen should look like. Now look at it. They've completely butchered it and I'm seriously a bit worried for future games that I'm looking forward to from Ubisoft. Division for example.

What do you lot think ?

I think you're overreacting mate.

First off, what platform is this played on, PS3 or PS4? I couldn't find anything that confirmed either platform, I tried scrolling through the comments, but that was about as useful as expected from Youtube comments...

The E3 Demo looked absolutely flawless and what next gen should look like.

I imagine the E3 demo was played on a high end PC with Ultra graphics, for the sake of looking pretty. It's reasonable to expect It to look different on consoles, and not High end PCs.

But you're right In thinking that It's what next gen should look like, but don't expect It to be an instant switch.

For example, here's a cutscene from Halo 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuFZvJqT9Eo

This was next gen back then, take note of the overall quality, the character animations and textures.

Now, here's a cutscene from Halo 4, same generation but several years later: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60xUDylvCQk

Notice the improvements? It's going to be the same for this generation.

It won't be an instant switch, and suddenly everything's 4K and 120 FPS, It will be gradual. It's why for a little while still, we'll see most games come out for both the 360/PS3 and the X1/PS4.

We're probably going to get disappointed in some cases, like Watch Dogs here, because we expect It to just look next gen right away, but sadly, the reality is that not a lot of games are going to look truly next gen for a while.

I can tell you that in another video that he does mention that he is playing it on PS4 (I really didn't want to put too much of another youtuber up on the forum) and according to his video he spoke to a developer in France and they said that there isn't much difference between the PC version and PS4 version except V-sync Anti Aliasing options and Higher resolutions... I can show the video if you want but I don't really want to put up another youtubers video...

More important than graphics why is there a freaking spider tank in that game. I thought it was going to be at least semi plausible and not a superhero game.

Who knows anymore? It looked like it belonged in a Spiderman game.

couldn't agree more

the games looks like shit

the city looks dead

the selling factor of the game is supposed to be hacking... and 90% of it is traffic lights and cameras

oh and i cant stand the stupid crap they put in there like the laser shooting mini games and stuff, its like they couldn't make up there mind on whether they wanted to make it serious or a joke game like saints row

The game still looks like an Open Beta game after i watch countless Streams,YouTube vids and ive downloaded some files from sources soo i could tell if they did a downgrade of the game for consoles and PC, the game really shines at Night whit rain also the rain drops, rain drop splatter, rain puddles and the stormy atmosphere is suprisingly detailed and next gen comparing to the day time  cycle, About the day time cycle it looks more so like GTA 4 on PC graphics theres nothing special about this game besides hacking.

That's one of the "digital trips" that this game lets you do. It lets you do a bunch of minigames that's bonkers and awesome. Aside from this one, there's also the one where you have to avoid robot detections, drive a car through hell and jump through flowers. It's weird yes. Here's the complete lists of the minigames.

Well, the E3 demo demonstration shows the graphics when it's at night and it rains, so of course it's going to look amazing to reflect on the water reflection, whereas the game spidertank demonstration shows a daytime situation on a clear weather, which is expected to not look as good. Do you have a shot of what the game looks like when it rains?

Meh, 'gamers'. The expectations right now for everyone are through the roof. No, I don't think that it's false advertisement (E3 vs now). Reveal trailers always look better than gameplay trailers. Hardly ever it has been the same or the other way around.

Oh, they're advertised unrealistic graphics for a freshly released console (let's be honest, it was supposed to be a console launch title and no way it could've looked as good)? Welcome to marketing! Where we tell you and show you what you want to hear and see in order to boost our potential sales!

I saw Watch dogs running on PC at Eurogamer last year- there were significant graphical glitches and at one point it crashed during the demonstration- I remmeber thinking quite clearly 'This is out this Christmas is it?' and being concerned - when it was delayed I was actually relieved. In my view it is always better to delay a game and get it working in a good condition rather than rush the release and end up with a buggy mess that needs to be patched every other week.

But ti may have been that during the process there were certain graphical touches taht had to be abandoned to let the game run smoothly.

I am still hoping that it's good - I've followed it for some time - but if the game turns out to be an average experience on console I may wait for it to come down in price.

Colonial marines doesn't feel like so much of a rip off when you paid £4 for it.

Exactly. I "love" how everybody has so high expectations that absolutely nothing can reach this. Don't preorder and don't buy the hype that the PR machine creates. See for yourself what the game holds when it is released.

Listen people don't get me wrong with my post here I have said that the graphics don't exactly make the game. For a perfect example, some of my favorite games are Final Fantasy 7 and Diablo 2. These games aren't exactly the best graphics on this earth but they make me come back frequently over and over again. My point was after being hyped up for next gen so much we should come to expect a little bit better quality than what is actually there.... We've got better graphics on games from 2012.. That's two years ago... Anyway I'm still buying this game wether the graphics are bad or not. My point to this post is not wether you're going to buy the game and what gamers expect my point to this post is do you think it is a cop out aswell ? If no then you just say... No because graphics don't make the game or whatever your reasoning for why it is or why it isn't... I'm not trying to hate on Watchdogs. I've been looking forward to this for a very long time. I'm just a little disappointed in how they've finished compared to what we were shown.

Like I said before, the E3 shows the game "at night when it rains", but the spidertank video shows the game "at daylight when the weather is clear." It's literally a day and night difference, and when it rains of course it's going to look great because of the water reflections. Do you have a video of the game when it rains?

If you are going to compare prior gameplay to current gameplay, you need to at least have it doing the same thing. What you linked was to a video showing off a mini-game within the game, which isn't considered watchdogs gameplay but rather watchdog's mini-game within the game

There is a full video up there that does this exact thing...

I am sorry, i didn't read through all the comments but mainly the OP

Now Watch Dogs is not the only game out there that have done it. Dark Souls 2 have had the same thing. In DS2 it was even more obvious as they have completely removed the lighting effects that they have shown in the game.

The game now still looks really good, and most importantly it runs really smooth! I just do not agree with everyone saying we are "Over reacting" because we are not. It is a product that has been promised to us and we expect it to be that way. If you cannot keep performance at top while keeping the graphics - Then simply don't advertise the graphics!

But at the same time - If you look at the food industry for example - You still see overly appetizing foods which look nowhere near the real thing you get... So it is a common practice to show you something better then what you actually get. Not saying it is right (Nor it should be seen as a right thing to do), but something that is in common practice for a really long time now

Ubisoft is notorious for this garbage, never trust a single thing you see from them prior to release, I predict the division will be the exact same way.

This isn't about that, it's about the fact that they are comparing 2 things which are not the same area in the game nor is it even trying to be a side to side comparison, it's just two slapped on videos which do not properly demonstrate what the video above does. All They are comparing is a mini-game to a story mission, with those 2 videos on their first post. I am not saying Ub doesn't make a really looking areas for only the sole purpose of E3 and such, no. In fact I know they do, this is how they market their games. It's essentially like those really Awesome looking cutscenes Blizzard makes for World of Warcraft and such, but instead using gameplay. This is called "false advertising" and it is quite popular, along with being very profitable too. But even though I am against such things and can rant on and on for hours about this. The thing here is that the first 2 videos are not, nor does it show much if anything about the "E3 Demo looked absolutely flawless and what next gen should look like. Now look at it. They've completely butchered it" statement in the post. All it shows me is a graphics comparison at best

Trust me I get what you're saying and because the source material was a poor choice for the OP you're playing devil's advocate and honestly propagating a fallacy when you know the OP is correct. The game looks nothing like they showed off at E3, it's watered down across the board not only visually but in density and what appears to be intricacy of gameplay.

The OP is right, there is no other way to put it, Ubisoft does bullshots in video form and it's absolutely unacceptable, they should be sued.

While I can understand every each one of you, how about we wait for the game to be released and after a while, when you've actually played it, you speak? Because right now this more seems like "one lady said, so it must be that". It's just pointless to argue about something that's not even out yet. "Oooh, but there are leaked videos on Youtube and they confirmed that it's not gonna run--" just shut up and wait for the product to come out and assess it yourself instead of basing your assumptions on some videos you saw somewhere.

It's a healthy thing to talk about and Ubisoft has been doing this as far back as Far Cry 2 as far as my memory serves, people are just discussing what they can already see and know to be, it's watered down as is everything they show and then release.

And that's the thing. All that people have seen are some videos at some conventions and on internet, yet have not even touched or even seen the game with their own eyes. So how does that even make all that criticism valid? It doesn't! Those're just assumptions based on some minor information that you've got.
