What is the worst video game ending you have seen in 2014?

23 posts in this topic

What game this year in 2014 has an ending that makes you go "that's fucking bullshit" and make the entire game pointless?

I found 2 games that you all probably never even heard of with the most disappointing and downright insulting endings ever. I can say for sure that these 2 are worse than Ma.... I don't even want to mention the name.

1) House of 1,000 doors: Palm of Zorro. The entire game is spent playing this repetitive, eye straining minigame of "find 15 objects amongst these 100 piles of objects" over and over and over again just to get items that's just retardedly stupid which I'm not even going to mention what the items are used for. You get to the ending after all of this and what did you get?

NOTHING!!! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!! The game just gets you back to the title screen, and you don't get any closure whatsoever!! Fuck this game!!!!!!

2) the Vanishing of Ethan Carter. This game is kind of like Gone Home where you search through objects and figure out what happens. The game has beeaaaaautiful graphics and great atmosphere. You're solving murders that happens around you and you have to find Ethan Carter to save him. As you solve the mystery of what happens around you and trying to find Ethan Carter, what do you get for the ending?

turns out you're just a made up character of Ethan Carter. Everything you do in the game doesn't happen and Ethan Carter is trapped in a basement that's on fire while he's making the story about you because his dumbass mother dropped a lantern. Good thing is his family tried to save him, but the game fade to black and you don't know if Ethan Carter made it out or not. I hope he lives, but what a disappointing end to a great atmospheric game. This is like one of those "it's all just a dream" ending that movies do that just RUINS EVERYTHING!" ARRRRRGHHHHHH!

Destiny. Not only is the final boss just 3 mini-bosses in a row but the ending doesn't really tie anything up or give any answers. I know the game is going to continue to expand but for god's sake give people something to hold themselves over with!

Hm... I guess Shadow of Mordor since it's ambiguous and doesn't really end the story but it wasn't bad per se it's just that I don't think there was a bad one so far. Every other game I've played was either good or fantastic, I feel was less cynical when talking about gaming lately in these forums. :P

PS - Wasteland 2 game of the year.

Basically this. Destiny has no excuse for such a terrible ending. It's literally an ending that just leaves you stumped and saying "THAT'S IT? WHAT THE -!"

I haven't played much between late last year to mid this year let alone finish anything, but yes, that Destiny ending was absolute bull. In fact, I think Destiny is the only game I've finished  since I started playing games again this year, since the bugs and crashing I kept getting in Skyrim irritated me enough to stop playing it.

Destiny.

Yep.

Pretty much everything about Destiny leaves you with "THAT'S IT? WHAT THE FUCK?" feeling after playing it. I find it hard to believe that the game costs $500 million to make. Those money must have been stored in Bungie's or Activision's money vault so they can show off with the other companies during their dinner parties that they have a swimming pool made out of money. Unfortunately for them:

Shadow of Mordor was atrocious. The story overall was pretty weak and forgettable, but the ending was aggressively bad on a level you don't usually see.

It would be between Shadow of Mordor which built up and then just fell on its face at the end of Destiny which just left you hanging for me.

Shadow of Mordor. Simply because I enjoyed the game through out and then that ending occurred. Otherwise it would be destiny

Anything that came out last year, this year and no doubt next year.

Games are just sequel baits now even if there is no intention to actually make one.  I can honestly say i havnt been satisfied with a game ending in years infact imo they havnt been satisfying since the FF7-10 days.

Well maybe the Halo endings where pretty good (even though ofcourse they were left open for sequels) but they were done in such a way you felt like you actually accomplished something everytime you saw them.

Now the stories of games dont keep me interested enough and i often trade them before even finished them...........Looking at you Watchdogs!

I have to say Shadows of Mordor's ending did leave a nasty after taste in my mouth. I thoroughly enjoyed the game's story line. Riiiiight up until the end.

Also found the game REALLY easy.

It didn't come out this year, but I finally finished Assassin's Creed 4 the other day and the ending was such a nothing ending. I mean Edward's ending was okay, the whole thing with climbing around the Observatory so you can finally kill douchebag Templar leader number 28 was okay, but then it takes you out into the "real world" again and it makes no sense. Just some guy rambling about the stupid gods from the Desmond saga that I never understood and trying to inject you with some kind of poison, but it's all one big cutscene you don't even get to control. It's pretty stupid.

Assassin's Creed is one of those games I think would benefit from a soft-reboot where in the whole "sci-fi" element gets removed and we just focus on the altered history and ancestors. Seriously, why do we need the sci-fi aspect of the Animus to tell these stories? Movies and books have been doing this for years, let's just do it with AC, can't make the story more bone-headed.

I agree. The current day storyline has always felt like an interruption, they did some cool stuff with it in AC3, having Desmond actually go out and do missions in the current day, but other than that's its felt more like a testing area for Watch Dog's hacking mini-games than anything actually important or worthwhile. The only place the animus story ever felt integral was in Revelations, and that was because Desmond was going in and out of 2 different ancestors, it's a shame the rest of the game sucked. But yea, they never advertise the current day sections, they never promote the current day sections, they feel like an interruption, a mini game thats keeping you from the game you're trying to play.

I'd like to see an AC game where there is no current day storyline, where it just focuses on the one character in their altered history. But I think Ubisoft backed themselves into a corner with the way the games have been made, the loading screens, the interface, the overarching story of Assassins vs Templars, is all based on the Animus and the current day story.

I want a modern day AC game, mix the gameplay with Splinter Cell and it could be great actually. Watch Dogs is kind of that really but they went with the hacking and got rid of the melee.

He's another imprint of the Sage like Roberts was, it's perfectly linked really. Even if you don't know the whole story about the old civiilization, Juno and what-not it's easy to understand that he was the same guy from the memories, due to the same face and voice.

Shadow of Mordor by far!  Anti-climactic, made no sense, a laughable QTE event for the final boss and it's about as far fetched from the source material as........
