Looking to start, but lost already.

I've been wanting to try my hand at streaming for a long time now, and I've finally gotten a decent computer built and working well. But now I'm somewhat lost.

The last time I had asked someone about it, a "video capture card" was mentioned on the hardware side of things. But I can't seem to find any information about it easily. I know the price for one ranges, but there are many different brands and such. Any time I ask now all I hear is the software side of things, which I plan to work on next. But it means nothing if I don't have the correct parts right?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You don't need a video capture card to record/stream from PC. It's usually used for consoles, can be used on PC but it's uncessary. Having a good hard disk or even better an SSD makes recording on PC's really good as well.

Only thing you need is a game capture software and hopefully you have a decent harddisk because good writing speed is important when recording. Or even better if you have a SSD. With SSDs out now, video capture cards aren't that necessary, plus SSDs makes your overall PC perfomance 10 times better.

Best software for recording to use is OBS (Open Broadcast Software), which is free and currently most popular streaming and game recording software. Most streamers I know don't use video capture cards anymore. I think that's more useful for recording videos and not streaming. For streaming a good internet, CPU and RAM are most important. If you got shit internet, you won't be able to stream well, because you will either lag in the stream because of bad upload speed or have horrible quality. And with bad RAM and CPU your games and PC will drop in perfomance.
