why do you not like _____ Fandom

83 posts in this topic

So I decided to make this after some though and being flames on another site for something similar.

Why do you not like ____ fandom and I want you to lay out your reasons and ways you think this fandom could fix a problem or ask why this is. I do not want this to turn into one big flame way or I will ask them mods to shut this down so please real this rules.

Do not flame or simply post to start spite on this thread.

Do not say you just hate something for no reason other this it exist.

If someone challenges your reasoning for something please keep it clean and respect the other person.

If you can't think to word a reason for how to fix something please simply lay out a question for a fan to try and fix

Do not Troll, flame or insult over something.

And now a small bit of context for this, As a brony I see a lot of insults and hate outside of MLP forums for the content and vulgar insults for them jsut being a fan but for here I want you to not only give the reason why you may hate MLP fans (and if you don't just skip it and say) but I want you to lay pout the reasons you disagree with MLP fans on the cartoons and why.

I have no idea what Fandom is, but I'd like to say that I personally don't mind bronies. I think a lot of people don't like them because they think that they're childish, or weird for liking a 3 year old girls show. Also, I don't think people like it how Bronies slap all of their love of their show onto everything.

Just my 2 cents.

A fandom is more of a following of a product ot a thing like MLP, adventure time or even in games like League of legend, Call of duty and so on. It is nothing more then a following of a group of people in a center thing.

Its the haters that are childish with zero toleration. If somebody likes something you don't, you might dislike them at first, but you can't just hate them for that.

I myself like Spongebob Squarepants. I think a lot of things on tv or on the internet are mostly for kids, but that doesn't mean you can't like it.

I'd rather be happy then to be ashamed of watching something other people think is weird.

Mass Effect fans ... well, the vocal ones.

All the uproar over "the ending of doom" like THAT was the worst part about the game. The ending, for me, was the highlight of what was a shit experience. The series as a whole was average at best yet the fans hype it up like it's the best RPG in all creation.

But that uproar ... so much rage.

And people still harp on about it to this very day.

Give it a rest already.

I will agree that now we need to let it go, I myself was a big backer by the indoctrination theory. I enjoy the RPG and do put it high on my self of good games but Yes I agree the rage needs to go away we just need EA to make better stories.

EDIT: For the record, I was not uncivil. This comment paints a false picture of what I said.

There aren't any fandoms I hate in particular- what I do hate, however, are the people who judge a group based on it's more vocal/noticeable/strange/rabid members.

Used to be a brony. Went on a forum, wrote fics, played with them...stuff like that. I liked it, but the drama, the stupidity and the hatred present in the french community made me leave it and never want to go back again.

You DARE insult Mass Effect? If there was a "nemesis list" on this forum I would add you to it  .

But I have to agree, the ending uproar pretty much put all the focus on the last 15 minutes of the game. Its like everyone chose to completely ignore all the good and bad features that happened in the 40 or so hours of gameplay BEFORE the ending  .

I have 2 brony cousins and I do admit that I feel kind of weird when they talk about their love for the show. I happened to catch my little sister watching it, so I decided to preview it  since it wasn't awkward. The characters definitely do feel fleshed out, and the music is top-notch for its kind. Some of the creative things the brony community also impresses me in a way.

But, its just not my thing. As a digital artist who loves drawing samurai characters, the visuals feel too "cute" to my liking. I don't hate the people though, the show teaches good morals anyway.

To me when I watch MLP it is good to keep in mind "this is a kids show" when I watch it I view it both as someone who enjoys the show but as someone who would one day like to show the cartoon to there own kids.

It's not that I "hate" the franchise I just don't find it as super duper awesome amazing orgasm worthy as some people seem to.

But, as you said, the uproar of the ending highlighted one part while ignoring the rest. For people that did enjoy the game it can dampen that enjoyment and for people that didn't (or people that detest BioWare/EA in general) it gave them more ammo to fire.

My problems with ME3 have nothing at all to do with the ending.

But it's the really vocal Mass Effect fans that I try and avoid. They turned on their beloved franchise so quickly and have the strangest conversations (and those that romanced Tali ... it became so popular they gave it a name ... Talimancers).

Extreme fans are strange beings.

I absolutely abhor the fans of Neon Genesis Evangelion.
I sat through that piece of shit for 26 episodes + 2-3 movies of it and it was the biggest pile of junk I've ever seen.
Granted, I can play the devil's advocate and say "Yeah, it did have some really awesome ideas". TOO FUCKING BAD THEY JUST FUCKED IT UP INSTEAD  <_<

NGE wouldn't be so bad, if the fandom would accept that it sucks.
But no, here's what they say and mind you, here's what they all say!
"You just don't get it, hehe, haha"
~ insert long swearing here ~

~ deep breath ~
There are no worse fandom than that.
If you like NGE, then fine. I love Gundam, I love Macross, but don't come and tell me that those shows are only about fighting when every single episode of NGE contains a fight, and try to put it off that NGE has character development, because it doesn't. Not a single character has any kind of characteriel growth. It's a poorly written, regurgitated piece of crap that somehow is more popular than.. I don't know, it just pisses me off so much in every kind of the way and, it wouldn't be so bad, if it weren't for the fandom that elevates it to godlike status.

I don't have a problem with any specific fandoms, but I do have a problem with a large portion of the people involved.

I'm going to use the Brony community as an EXAMPLE, while I understand people enjoying the show, which is fine because it's not bad at all (Just not really my thing.) many of them use it as an excuse to feel like they are a part of something and belong there because they most likely don't feel they belong in their real lives. Thus they turn to an internet community such as Bronies, YT personalities, etc and are extremely and autonomously vocal about it so they feel good about themselves.

That's the problem with fandoms, it's fine if you have one but don't wave it around in my face.

I don't care for MLP or bronies (Hell I have some friends who are) but the super vocal fanboyish or overly creepy types really get on my nerves.

The same sorta applies to furries, I can't stand the thin skinned get-offended-by-minor-things types be them fans of artists or artists themselves, the ones with the weird fetishes (Hyper anything, non-standard vore, cub porn, scat, etc), the creepy oversexualized ones and the ones who causes excessive drama or make the fandom look stupid in the public eye, be it in public area like a park or on national TV. Here's the kicker: I'm a furry myself and have seen so much stupid bullshit over the 17 years I've been one it feels like a semi-normal thing.

Fandoms always have people that go too far. Any extremes one way or the other are almost always bad, and fandoms are a prime example of this. A general rule of thumb is that if you consider yourself not a fan, but a part of a fandom, you might be going just a little too far. Like what you watch/play, just don't let it lead your life. Because at the end of the day it's just someone's idea for making money.

Your are talking more about a escapist fantasy which us as gamer's do, we uses video games to get away from real life for some time just to unwind or relax, but I can see where you are coming from where people take it to far and become very paranoid and aggressive about it.

I had to google "Bronies".... as far as any fandom goes I would not apply this name to myself. Ever.

I used to watch My little Pony and all sorts of other little girl cartoons If you enjoy it go for it who cares really.

If it brings you enjoyment you shouldn't care if someone else doesn't like it

Frankly  I am a fan of many things but I  think the various fandoms are stupid, sorry. ESPECIALLY when it comes to games. Sure the game may be great but it still has flaws please don't try and confuse me for someone who blindly follows and think its perfection incarnate just because all the "fans" think it. Its not. While I may think its good and fun its by no means "the best game EVER".

That's the worst. When people refuse to admit to the flaws of something simply because they have to "force" people in to realizing how great it is. I think that's the worst thing about fandoms...and the weird porn.

Humans crave status and the easiest way to get it is to look down on someone or look down on a group of people. Essentially it is just another form of bigotry such as racism, sexism, or nationalism. Labeling someone as inferior because they happen to like a certain show or are from a certain country or have a certain skin color is ignorant in my opinion and says much more about the hater than about the group that they hate.

That being said, some fandom's, such as the CoD and LoL communities, have earned bad reputations for legitimate reasons.

Perosnally I don't judge groups of people, I judge individuals. I don't care what videogames a perosn likes, what TV shows they like, what their skin color is, what country they come from, what gender they're attracted to, or what they have between their legs so long as they're not an asshole.

Why would anyone hate MLP fans or any fans? Judging people over things they like is absurd.

And if it's another reason it's ludicrous to think that every fan of it is like that.

Judging groups of people is astonishingly cursory.

Allow me,

"So I saw NGE and, it's a really bad show."

"Uuh, you just don't get it!"

"Okay, well explain it to me then?"

"It cannot be explained you moron! You must get it yourself. The characters are deep and emotional with amazing growth. It isn't all about fighting in all episodes like it is in your shows."

"But it was fighting in 24 out of 26 episodes. Nay, all was fighting in. Unlike my shows where there have been episodes of no fighting at all!"

"You're just stupid!"

- NGE fandom.

I wish I could say that  :(  It's actually every single hardcore Evangelion fan ever put into the entity of one.

Trust me, go to a place where they talk anime. Type "I just saw NGE and, it was really bad", you'll have someone come up to you and tell you

"You just don't get it."
