Self-Imposed Rules in Gaming

36 posts in this topic

I have one rule on games that reward stealth and pacifist runs....

KILL EVERYTHING.

How dare you try and reward me for being nice, who do you think you are stealth game, who do you think you are. Give me access to guns and ask me not to use them, how rude.

That's manly.

Though, an Illusionist runthrough on Skyrim would be pretty interesting. The number one rule being "Don't directly kill anything"

I may record myself doing it at some point.

Did a "Werewolf Run" on Skyrim with that. Put on a mod that made every NPC non-essential out of spawn and had a normal werewolf, unperked and unleveled. Then went around in one go trying to kill as many NPCs as possible before I either died or reverted back. I spent two hours in lycan form before I finally ended up reverting back. 246 NPCs dead, Solitude, Whiterun, Dawnstar, Riften and Falkreath were entirely decimated, along with three war-parties on the road more than a few lonely travelers with no one to guard them. And Ole Bessy the cow who I killed out of sheer spite for getting in my way.

Awesome plan, I may try it. Mine's in Skyrim as well. Never finished it though.

The Woodsman Challenge - Complete the main questline with these limitations:

  • Heal with only food and drink
  • No spells (Enchanting is okay)
  • Can only use tools/hunting gear as weapons: Iron Dagger, woodsman's axe, pickaxe, fists and hunting bows
  • Can equip from Hide to Studded armor & Shields, or run around in peasant's clothes because you're a badass

I've heard and seen good things about the "Live Another Life" mod, and that could certainly be utilized with this challenge as well.

If the game has pistols that are enjoyable to use, use nothing but the pistols. Win in online MP games using on a pistol and melee attacks.

There was this guy who got to grandmasters only with 6-Pools and 7-Pools. His new project is getting to grandmaster with protos, only banging his head against the keyboard...

In multiplayer, using only melee and weapons dropped by the players you kill.

Naturally, I suck at it, but it's great fun regardless.

Well, yea for games that I love challenge. I play with no healing items. For instance, Dark Souls. I go soul level one and no healing items with the calamity ring equipped. Little things like that can go a long way in the enjoyment of a game.

In the days when I played COD, No grenade launchers (unless it was required to acquire underbarrel shotgun or enemy dropped it). After a while, I decided to used nothing but iron sights on all firearms save snipers.

I know it's not much, but I liked to do it because I could rely on more basic non-explosive weapons where others would spam bombs like they were duke nukem or something. And when I got killed and they tried to take my weapon, have fun with the old iron sights.

Metal Gear Solid 3, you must have hated The Sorrow...unless you skipped it. There Kojima goes again, messing with the player's head.

In a stealth game, no knouckout or killing, aka ghosting

in RPGs never have my descisions influenced by morality meters or infleunce levels. And always get lockpicking.

FPSs Always, even if first time playing, put on hard or hardest difficulty.

Strategy: sometimes infantry only

Also, love using pistols over rifles or explosives
